I get the impression they went with the movie version because all of the detailing would justify the size and expense.

Of course, the TOS version would be cheaper and easier for them to produce, and the theoretically lower price point could mean more sales.

Who knows? Maybe there'll be one, someday. There ARE some resin garage kits of the D-7 in this scale, though.

Get out your power sander, grind off all the details, and you will be pretty close to the TV version.

You know how they say there's no such thing as a "pretty good" alligator wrestler? Well, for something like this, "pretty close" just doesn't cut the mustard--or whatever Klingons use.

Yeah, the K’t’inga proportions are a bit different from the D-7, despite their having the same overall shape. It’s also slightly shorter than the D-7 when they’re set side by side.

I am aware, and said "pretty close" for a reason. Given the lack of surface detail on the D7, I do not imagine that R2 will ever release it in 1/350.

Impressive. Is that the official orientation of the emblem, now?

The orientation of the Klingon emblem is one of those weird mistakes which has become thoroughly canonized.

On both the original D-7 FX model and this set decoration from “Elaan of Troyius”—

—the emblem was pointing to the right, which was clearly the original design intent.

At some point during the production of the movies, however, someone either didn’t notice the intended orientation, or decided to rotate the emblem so that it pointed up (perhaps to echo the orientation of the smiliarly three-pointed Enterprise/Starfleet insignia).

...and I just found Matt Jefferies original artwork for the emblem as seen on the FX model:
