Gotta disagree with you there, man... THE 90s were the real golden age of video games, even if the graphics are "too pixelated"... but thank you so much for all your replies!

Has anyone heard about the Intellivision Amico and the Panic Playdate? Those are 2 new consoles with 2D graphics... really original stuff.

The Amico focuses on local multiplayer and its controllers look like smartphones. All the games will be exclusive and cost around $10. It will be a very affordable machine: 150-200 at launch (perhaps the incoming financial crisis can benefit its sales). It will be released in about a year. Two trailers have been released: a first one with more information and a second one that just came out yesterday with some gameplay.

The Panic Playdate is even weirder... A portable console very similar to the original Game Boy with standard buttons except for a CRANK to turn back time in the games. All the games will be exclusive and digital, and will receive new "episodes" and "seasons". It's 2D only and black and white. It will cost $150.

So Matt, I think this is as good as it's going to get in regards to Yakuza 3,4 and 5:

Also, Sega are considering bringing over the Samurai era Yakuza games:

I've been hoping for these to be localised for ages, fingers crossed!

Hey Matt, I don't see any thread about technical issues... Do you have a link for that? The "Help" section does not allow posting messages.

Not a video game, but.....

And, a video game:

FALLEN ORDER,  Visually stunning. Lead character kinda boring. Light saber action, incredible.  Just dipped my toe in, but it feels like if you like the UNCHARTED franchise you'll love this game. Consider this a review "in progress...".

How would you compare it to The Force Unleashed? Better? Worse? About the same?

Never played THE FORCE UNLEASHED.  It's getting universally great reviews: IGN  Another plus for me is that it's made by Respawn, the developer behind the excellent TITANFALL 2.

I've never played Titanfall or Uncharted so I can't compare, lol. From the ads it looks similar to the kind of game that The Force Unleashed was (single player missions, upgrading skills, etc.) so that has caught my eye as I don't care for multiplayer games.

No multiplayer.  Single player campaign.  Although I like some multiplayer games, I get the hesitancy to jump into a new game with the fear that it's going to end up that way.  No worries here. It's an open and closed single player game.  About 15 hours into it.  Fun mix of UNCHARTED goodness mixed with TOMB RAIDER puzzle solving and a heaping dose of MASS EFFECT-style world building.  Good stuff.

The deeper I get into the game, the more issues I have with the combat style.  It's a melee game, not my favorite, but I quite enjoyed the ARKHAM games and those were essentially melee games as well.  The one thing they have over FALLEN ORDER is the ability go stealth.  That has always been my favorite way to play games. I've never been a run-and-gun style of player, preferring to stay in the shadows and map out my strategy of attack.  That is simply impossible in this game when getting within five feet of an enemy somehow triggers them to your presence even if you're behind a rock, tree or in a cave. I don't like double clicking to dive away and am certainly not a fan of the seconds it takes for your droid to shoot out a stim pack for health.  Finally, I wish games would dispense with the default sprint control being to hold down the left joystick.  That's so not intuitive and certainly not easier than holding R or L 1 or 2.

All in all, still a very fun game to play with tons of things to explore once you get extra abilities ala the Lego games.  I will, however, say that the crates/treasures are fairly lame.  I search for them for completion, but all of them with the exception of a few "secrets" are simply cosmetic skins for you, your driod or the ship.  Yawn.  At the very least, since the skins come in designated pairings ("duty and honor", "rebellion" etc), you should get some kind of a bonus when you find all the same skins in the same group and then equip them.  Nope. Missed opportunity while being a relatively low cost driver to encourage exploration beyond being a completionist.

OK.  Finished FALLEN ORDER.  All around review is that it's a fairly amazing game with more than a few wonky control options that, while they don't affect overall play, can be frustrating at certain points.  The story is fun and engaging.  The worlds are diverse and beautifully rendered.  The voice acting (except for the lead) is superb.

My gripes:

-I do wish that meditation points (game saves) were also fast travel points as well.  Unfortunately, this game has none.
-I wish there were more puzzles to solve.  Those ended up being fun and often difficult to solve.
-As I said before, there should be a stealth option.  I know it's a melee game, but even the ARKHAM games had an option to stealth.  This has none.
-Some of the boss battles were so ridiculously dependent on timing that I had to eventually bump down my gameplay to story mode when I faced them just to finish.  Not a melee specialist by trade, but I do normally play games (even melee games like ARKHAM) on their most difficult level.  This one I could not.
-Mentioned this before, but I wish the chests were more than just skins.  You could honestly just look for the secrets, which are gold chests, because those add value to the game (permanent increased life and force).  Skins have never been a "value add" to me.  That's why I don't pay $10 more for a "gold edition" that essentially comes with three skin packs.  Changed my lightsaber twice and my clothing once.

Those are, to me, minor quibbles except for the boss battles.  At my age, I'm just not interested in spending two hours to master a single boss fight that also fucks up my wrists and fingers for a day!

Good to great game.  Highly recommended.

I just started METRO EXODUS.  It's an interesting melding of the FALLOUT games, without the world building, with every other post-apocolyptic  scenario you can imagine.  Fun first person, but I'm not a huge fan of limiting ammo. I'm in a position where I have none and have to decide where to go based on that decision.  But, and this is crucial, I didn't have a choice to conserve ammo.  It was thrust upon me as I faced a swarm of mutants to end a level.  Which leads me to my problem: i can play stealth all I want, but then there's some "event" that doesn't allow that and then all my gameplay is out the window.  I think that's a cheat, but I'll deal.
