JB the lack of shading on Batman was this to contrast with the background so he stands out more?•• Did you read the description of what the customer asked for, Anthony? An "Aparo" style Batman. That means the "blue" cape and cowl, with very little shading.

I didn't read the whole description . Thanks JB for the info.
I guess because this was the look of the Batman I first saw. This is how i like to see him.

No. I deliberately do not include any human forms in the "stuff" in the
windows of my nighttime cityscapes. There's already too much chance
of the inkblot effect creating things that aren't there!

Thats understandable. In any case, putting stuff in the windows adds
such a sense of depth and really makes the main character(s) in your
work, live in a real world. It would be kinda interesting to use them as
a sort of Rorschach test. I'd bet we'd be amused and possibly horrified
by what some people see in those windows.

Flavio's comment about the "white Batman" got me thinking about what this piece might look like, colored up in the style of the costume's vintage. Here's a quick and dirty look, replete with a halftone effect for the correct degree of verisimilitude…

A "scene" from this thread was repeated last night at home, as I was watching Batman the Animated Series with my daughter and she asked "Isn't he afraid to fall?".
And then later on that episode, she asked me why won't Batman drop this bad guy Joker on the acid tank he was using to threaten his hostages so he wouldn't hurt anyone else.

Hey, my own Batman Commission looks about the same, in terms of how "white" Batman is, except for that shadow where the cape wraps around the tower!
Man, I miss this Batman!

There is just so much to look at on this one, but i keep coming back to the awesome gargoyle. It's incredible how many different takes on the gargoyle JB has done, and they are alll so damned cool! The draping effect on the cape is also a standout part of this piece. This is an iconic image to be sure.
