Of all the retcons and misconceptions which have attached themselves to TOS over the years, I get the distinct feeling that the whole “200 years vs. 300 years thing is your “favorite”!

•••

Yeah, it's just so stupid and annoying! "Hey, the STAR TREK timeline doesn't fit the real world! We have to 'fix' it!" Idiocy. And, thankfully, something CBS/Paramount has allowed me to ignore.

As I have often said (in many contexts) the people who created the concept probably got it right!!

I never ceased to be amazed at just how little was actually explained/quantified in TOS.

A high percentage of details which are now taken for granted come from after the fact explanations devised by fans and TREK spin-off show writers to fill in the gaps. Things like the timeline, Sulu and Uhura’s first names, etc., etc.

So...... it looks like I'll be wrapping up with 22 instead of 24. Not final, yet, but my frustration over finding an appropriate 23 was growing to migraine levels.

Plus, this will make packaging the trades easier.

What I'd already started for 24 will now become a "special".

Like someone else here suggested, it would have been cool if you could have tackled the Orion Syndicate/Orion pirates somehow.

(I know, you don't take ideas from fans but I wanted to suggest it once more)

One thing of the remastered episodes I did like was the design for the Orion vessel in "Journey to Babel".

Sorry to hear about losing an issue (bummer)

I guess this means the final wrap-up will happen in December (exactly 5 years since "Strange New Worlds" came out)?

Trade Volume 7 (issues 18-20) is coming out in August, which leaves Volume 8 (issues 21, 22 + the special, former 24) for the Holidays?

And...

With this issue finished, and nothing actually in the pipeline, I am "unemployed"! A condition that I have not experienced since the early Seventies!!

Whatever you’ll produce, I’ll buy it and read it since I’m sure it will be your next dream project! Thanks a lot Mr Byrne.

A shame, but, like others, I look forward to the next chapter in your creative life!

I've kept quiet throughout this thread because I wanted to follow rather than comment (I fell a bit behind with purchases, too).

Of all the work done, I do think "The Mirror Crack'd" is my absolute favourite! Reread it last night.

Thanks, Mr Byrne!

I’ve been re-reading the series as well, and “Isolation” is my favorite.  It’s such a great idea and expertly told story that really highlights each character as an individual.  And the use of panels to pace the story and the artwork makes it one of JB’s career best.

Looking at the previous stories, it’s been strong from the start and just gets better and better with each book.

"Core" is another one whose ending I felt incredibly touching. Made me think about "immortality" in regards to the passing of my stepfather and father.

I find I still have story ideas bumping into each other in my head. Especially when I play with my modeler. This morning I was tinkering around with a "grand staircase" model I built almost 20 years ago, a lobby such as one might have found in New York circa 1860, and suddenly I was picturing Kirk, Spock and McCoy running around in appropriate clothing, as in "Return of the Archons". Not enough shots in that episode to cover a whole different story, of course, but then I thought about the "neck down" casting that worked so well for me on the last issue....

MAKE IT STOP!!!!!

(Ah, well, at least I am stacking up material for when I want to do a "Special".)

Would any potential Specials beyond the initial one (former issue 24) be published via IDW?

Unusual question perhaps but when you plan to make a special, will it be a single long story or perhaps a collection of short stories?

Received my comps of 21 yesterday. STILL running dark on some pages.

Startling to turn to the Next Issue preview and realize it's 22. The End is coming at warp speed!!

Yes, Kor. This is my very liberal reinterpretation of the old Sidney Poitier/Tony Curtis movie THE DEFIANT ONES.

Speaking of covers, this morning I sent in the cover for the 8th, and for now final, trade paperback! This will contain 21, 22, and THE CAGE Special.

8!! That's closing on 1,000 pages!!

Think how much loot I'm going to pull in when Jim Warden starts selling the original art!

oh, wait.....
