Finished the series last night and I found it to be
slightly less than mediocre. An over all lack of
creativity kills everything from casting to the sound
track. It's a great example of how not to tell an action
story.

There's no excuse for how bad the martial arts are on
this show. The wrong techniques are used at the wrong
times. Even something as simple as an arm bar got
applied incorrectly multiple times by multiple
characters.

IRON FIST is one of the blandest, most indifferent shows I've ever watched.  I'm six hours -- or maybe 33 hours, it's hard to tell -- into the series and literally not one single semi-interesting thing has occurred.  It's like someone decided to duplicate the genial blandness of network TV and took it too far; even the curious decision of rarely showing Iron Fist in action reminds me of shows like the 70s HULK.  There's no way I'm proceeding; I'll either skip to the last episode or just give up.

Compare Iron Fist to the recent FX series Taboo starring Tom Hardy. It has a similar premise ( hero returns to the big city after many years in exotic lands, challenges corporate baddies for his inheritance). But it succeeds in everything that Iron Fist fails. There's just not one minute of Taboo that isn't suspenseful or menacing, whether it be knife fights in the alleys of London or boardroom meetings in the East India Company.

These days excellent shows are popping up all the time. Marvel really can't put out half-baked stuff like Iron Fist and hope for some kind of success.

I gave up after episode 7. Meant to finish, but I just can't be bothered. A bland and unfocused mess with an exceptionally weak lead.

The first four episodes are terrible. But then it gets better. Watchable. Towards the end I was almost enjoying it.

Finn Jones is a disaster. Tom Pelphrey is great and Lewis Tan as a Drunken Master was fun.

I enjoyed it. Could it have been better? Sure.

Some of the fights scenes were weak. I thought some were pretty good, though.

I didn't hate Finn Jones in the role. Jessica Henwick was quite good as Colleen Wing.

The Iron Fist effect was well done.

Did it have slow patches? Yes. But all the Marvel Netflix shows do. I stopped watching JESSICA JONES about 4 episodes due primarily to this. Also...I have no "history" with that character. Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, I gave more leeway.

See, I have no history with any of the Netflix Defenders characters apart
from Daredevil...and I still enjoyed JESSICA JONES and LUKE CAGE far
better than IRON FIST.

Finn Jones just was not convincing in the role. He came off as childish,
silly, and unbelievable. And though I know the Caucasian Danny Rand is
perhaps the more well-known version in the comics, I think an Asian
protagonist (though it would have been playing into some stereotypes)
would have gone a long way to making the material seem less outlandish.

A magical mountain of monks that appears on "our" plane every few years? A glowing, invincible fist?

I think the outlandish ship has sailed at least far enough out that an Asian Iron Fist would fail to bring it back to port.

The show has problems, but casting a blonde, blue-eyed European to play Danny is something they got right.

I think he is supposed to seem childish, at times. He was ripped from our culture at 10 years old and grew up among very singular-minded people. I don't think it's too off base to believe there might be some arrested social development occurring.

Given all the casting controversy, it's a bit cringey that Netflix Marvel
walked through all the doors that people were worried they walk
through, from making Danny specifically a Chosen One outsider of
prophecy who beat out all the K'un-Lun natives to attain the mantle of
Iron Fist to having Danny border on Weeaboo-ness in his scenes with
Colleen. Even making Colleen a love interest rather than a platonic
partner was a bit tone deaf.

They should've cast Lewis Tan as Davos, and started the
first few episodes in K'un-Lun. The story with the
Meechums could have filled the middle of the series,
with Davos showing up at the end as Steel Serpent. The
missed opportunities are what haunts this show. Sigh.

We just started watching it and as a huge fan of the character, I only have one question? Are we ever going to see Iron Fist in this thing?

Maybe this is based on a newer series I haven't read, but wow did they absolutely F the origin and the characters. I understand their need to make changes ( though I don't agree they're needed ), but the only thing that's the same is the names of the characters.

Brian I agree with you 100%. Lewis Tan as Steel Serpent and the big bad for season 1 would have been far better than rehashing The Hand.

Lewis stole the show for his scenes. Watching any martial artist fight using Drunken Master is always fun.

Marvel should find a leading role befitting his skills in a future series.

The fight scene against Lewis Tan also highlighted the
lack of grasp the writers had for this show. How does
Danny not recognize Drunk Style Kung Fu? Making him
ignorant of it undermines the character.

Have to agree - the show isn't good. The fight scenes are boring, poorly staged and over-edited. The acting is pretty bad - especially the guy who plays Danny, who is overly intense and always upset. The girls are the only redeeming thing so far but even they have little to work with. I never really wanted to see a Defenders series, not this Defenders series. I'd prefer more Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, with a little crossing over. Oh well, still beats DC movies.

I can't remember if I posted this earlier in the thread, but this show could have been 6 decent episodes *at most*

There are whole subplots that are nothing but filler.

Finally got a chance to watch a couple of episodes; I like what I've seen so far.  Granted I only saw the first two but they were enough to pique my intrest for the rest of the season.
