So far, I think it looks great.

Looks good.  Hopefully there is a break in the Star Wars 'formula' for this movie.   I'd like to be genuinely surprised by the events that transpire on screen.   Ep. 7 didn't manage to do much of that.

Hmmm... It does look promising.

And what appears to be the first cinematic appearance of a Grand Admiral.

Very effective! Whether or not this really needs to be told, that's another story. But the angle looks interesting.

At any rate, here's hoping Felicity Jones' character isn't related to anybody in the regular STAR WARS films!

Hard to watch that trailer and imagine anything new being brought to the table.

"This is a rebellion isn't it? I'm a rebel."

That line feels so anachronistic and puts the whole thing on ice. The Rebels need this mission done, this girl looks completely unreliable, everyone looks so serious and worried-- so naturally, they give this girl the mission.

...feels like something we've seen an awful lot lately.

I'm assuming she's Rey's mother.

Noticed something interesting about the Star Destroyer in the teaser:

It has the same command tower sensor as the one in STAR WARS (1977):

Much different from the straight bar configuration in EMPIRE and ROTJ:

Love this. Death Star construction, old style SD, X-Wings and everything else.

The shadow falling on that star destroyer from that circular thing on the
Death Star threw me off for a second because it looked like the classic
Star Wars scene transition wipe.

Pretty smart. Allows Disney to have their cake and eat it by bringing back wholesale all the old toys that know and love so well.

I had my doubts about this one, as I've said elsewhere, but this trailer allays those doubts to a large degree.

Can't argue with JB's view that we're unlikely to see anything new, but gotta think this'll keep the cash registers busy.

Maybe not anything new, but at the same time, it looks more compelling than anything in THE FORCE AWAKENS.

And a refreshing lack of lightsabers! (They may yet pop-up in the final product, but still...!)

A solid enough trailer, but...

Again, a lot of nostalgia-milking. Frankly, one of my fears regariding this
brave, new Disney Era of STAR WARS is that they're gonna explore
and strip-mine every nook and cranny of the existing films in order to
create new ones.

I mean, do we really NEED to see how the Rebellion acquired the
Death Star plans, shortly before the events of the original film? Not
really. And, of course, that story's already been told several times over,
in the now-expunged EU. Really, it just seems like an excuse to haul
out all of the old toys. Why not, I dunno, try something new?

There's also the rumor that Ewan McGregor might be brought back to
do a solo Obi-Wan film, set between REVENGE OF THE SITH and
STAR WARS. Now, as far as we knew, Kenobi spent decades in exile
in his little hut on Tatooine. Of course, there's nothing to say that he
DIDN'T have some amazing adventure during that long exile, but...

Anyway, it's too early to tell about ROGUE ONE, so I don't want to
come across as a hater. The vibe I get thus far is "SUICIDE SQUAD 2:
DEATH STAR BOOGALOO.". And, having already had Female Luke as
the lead of TFA, are we now to have Female Han as the lead of this
film? Hmmm.

Much different from the straight bar configuration in EMPIRE and
ROTJ:
+++++++

Actually, it's the same design, just rotated from a vertical orientation to
a horizontal one for the bigger model built for EMPIRE.

Never knew that Greg... But it was a nice continuity touch for this movie.

Yeah, the Death Star looks just like the original FX model, too!

AARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Oh, how I HATE that stupid term. Has it now become impossible to express even well-reasoned concerns about something without being branded a "Hater"?

I came across a theory last night that this Jyn character is a stand-in for the Mara Jade character from the books and, along with Luke, they are Rey's parents.

I heard a theory that Jyn may be Rey's mother, but I haven't heard about any Luke connection until now. I hope they steer clear of that; it just makes Luke look like a deadbeat dad.
