A companion piece to the vintage Superboy over Smallville I did a while back.

The full-size scan has been added to the gallery here: http://www.artofjohnbyrne.com/gallery/commissions/commission s- standard/
Couldn't resist showing the companion piece side-by-side....

I don't get it. Why is she smiling? Shouldn't she be full of angst? Where's the armoured style costume? I'm confused. Seriously, that's fine work, Mr Bryne.

I love seeing Supergirl in her second outfit*, rather than all the different transformations that have become the norm. Mr. Byrne, thank you for the memory. And Streaky to boot... this image alone will keep me smiling all day.
*Yes, her very first outfit had the ruffled skirt bottom. That seems to be to be a little too much detail. Of course, adding spikes, pouches, leather jackets, shoulder pauldrons, etc. show that a little detail can be taken waaay too far.

That's great!! I like that that TV show has seen a resurgance of interest in this character. I'm a Marvel guy, so I only know her from just a few comics.

Am I having another Looking Glass moment? As reference for this piece I used the ACTION COMICS cover on which Supergirl first appeared, and I saw no pleats. Now I'm afraid to go look at it again!

The cover didn't have them:

Saved them for the interior I guess:
