Number 1 I agree with. My brother's friend, who I feel is talented, is exploring various options, including YouTube.

It's true about technology. God, when I think of what others had to work with years ago. It seems ancient.

I pretty much agree with most of that, to be honest. I see buskers playing in various UK cities - and nowadays many of them have a board with their YouTube/Instagram/Snapchat/Facebook details.

I'm sure there are negative aspects to items from that list, though.

None of those reasons have anything to do with the actual music industry. They are all everything acts can do OUTSIDE the industry.

Could one not argue that it is an industry (sort of) if people are doing it in their own homes via YouTube - and charging for content?

I work from home. Self-employed. Not in music, but I'm in a particular industry. It doesn't stop being an industry just because I'm working solo from home without a manager.
