All well and good but I would consider Nighthawk's backstory and origin to be very complicated to translate easily to TV, first of all he is a Batman homage, then he starts life as a villain of the Avengers who its revealed was created, by an extraterrestrial godlike being, to be a counterpart to a hero from another dimension. Hmm not as straightforward as being blinded by a radioactive isotope is it? So why not modify his origin to make it simpler, well then it stops being Nighthawk anymore. Would I prefer it wasn't called The Defenders? Sure, I grew up with the original line up and it holds a special place in my heart, but with the best will in the world we're not going to get Dr Strange, The Hulk, Sub Mariner and the Silver Surfer in one place any time soon and certainly not on television.

You could simply introduce him as if it already all happened, just not on camera. Daredevil knows him from some past skirmishes and he just says he's reformed and doesn't do that stuff anymore. Drop hints or allusions for fans to his criminal past and criminal associates. His knowledge and connections in both the business world and movers & shakers as well as super criminals could differentiate him a little bit from the others.

What Ed said!

I still haven't seen any of the shows yet, but do plan to them them a shot.

There are elements from Kyle Richmond's past that could tie a television version to the comics character without including all of the interdimensional counterparts, cross-company plagiarism, and other nonsense. His temper, privileged past, inheritance of his father's company at a young age, the drunk driving incident that crippled his girlfriend Mindy, his brief super-villain career and oft-thwarted attempts to do right and make amends, resulting in tax problems, public revelation of his identity, and paralysis could all play a role, with nary a Grandmaster, Nebulon, or Overmind anywhere on the horizon.

And then you could swap his mind with that of a forest deer in preparation for a head transplant with a horned, fork-tongued mystic with a penchant for bizarre, self-mutilating surgeries. Y'know, just to mix things up...

And there could be an Elf! With a gun...!

With the way a lot of this stuff goes they'd probably make NIghthawk the whitey hating black guy from Supreme Power that's the current Nighthawk in Marvel these days rather than the Kyle Richmond who was in so many Defenders stories.

Good point, Shane. Okay, I take back anything I said that asked for Kyle Richmond to be on the show. I didn't fully take in account how many Kyle Richmonds there are out there, and how much "better" the newer ones are simply by virtue of being more recent.

Ultimate Adventures Hawk-Owl might be an okay model for a Defenders Batman rip-off parody without all the earth crossing stuff in the basics. Rich, standoffish, almost held his own with Captain america once, not a fan of big gov superhero-trooperism. Just call him Knigthawk and forget all about Woody. otherwise he's a kick boxing exp spec ops guy in a cape and cowl who climbs walls and such. Moon Knight without super strength of Konshu visions.

Since the one tie-in is PowerMan's contract and not quite Hellcat...why not. Hell, toss ol' Wundarr in there and have him go Aquarian over the series & we parody Superman without touching Hyperion.

I'm definitely passing on this and future Marvel Netflix shows.  The final episode of Luke Cage and the first 3 episodes of Iron Fist "broke" it.  I no longer have any interest.

After three mostly satisfying seasons of DAREDEVIL and JESSICA JONES, the second half of LUKE CAGE and the first half of IRON FIST (because I didn't proceed past that) have dented my confidence in the Netflix-Marvel shows.  I'll watch THE DEFENDERS, but I won't be going into it with the same degree of excitement that I've had up until now.

The fact that Daredevil isn't in costume, and the one scene in the trailer in which he's wearing a mask is the subject of mockery, bodes ill.  I'm in for future seasons of Daredevil and Punisher, but I dunno about the rest.

I'm beginning to think that my enjoyment of Jessica Jones was more about David Tennant's Purple Man than anything else.

Outside of the novelty of having these characters fighting together, it does make it glaring that 3 out of the 4 involved have pretty much the same powers when it comes to fighting bad guys. Especially when they incessantly fight bad guys in hallways....

And it would it kill them to actually call Matt's alter-ego "Daredevil"??

The hallway fights are nifty little Netflix/MCU running theme. I really like them when they are executed well.

Not quite a "Mr. Cage...Turn around" moment, but I'm still pretty excited about Luke and Danny clashing/teaming up.

I'm hoping we'll actually see Daredevil back in costume, but...these shows haven't been very costume-intensive...

As horrible as Iron Fist was, this still looks promising. I'm still in.

Best line fro the trailer:
JESSICA JONES: "You look ridiculous."
MATT MURDOCK: "It's your scarf!"

The Netflix series launches tomorrow. Hoping for an improvement from IRON FIST which (for me) was hard to watch. (Give him his damn costume already!)

Final Trailer:

Lead costumer Stephanie Maslansky explains how she designed the looks of the characters:

I am going to give it a try, although early reviews have not been flattering.

I had to force myself to watch the Iron Fist series all the way through, and supposedly he remains the weak link in The Defenders. I only hope that the other three characters can help make up for it.

I won't be watching. I may be getting squeamish in my old age, but I thought some of the violence in Daredevil was truly sickening. A pity, as I thought the actors were great and the story was compelling. But after struggling through several episodes of over the top violence, watching a guy having his head repeated slammed by a car door until he was decapitated was too much for me. With that, I decided the Netflix version of the Marvel universe was not one I cared to visit.

First episode gets you caught up on the players.  The following episodes move fairly well once the plot starts settling in.   Sigourney Weaver is building up to something nice and creepy so far.

That's EXACTLY where (and why) I quit watching Daredevil, Andrew.  Good to hear I'm not alone.

Now, that said, I DID enjoy both Jessica Jones and (to a lesser degree) Iron Fist.

Haven't given Luke Cage a try yet, but the violence in Daredevil was too much for me.
