If the show'd had good writing the last few years, this move wouldn't have been necessary.

It''ll be like the shabang when Kate Mulgrew was cast as the first woman captain on Star Trek.  The Female Doctor will be better than all of the male doctors ever, something like the infallable path JJ Abrams did with Rey in The Force Awakens.

Once again, let's not create a strong role for a woman. Let's just shoehorn her into an existing male role.

Well, they ran the 'strong role for a woman' thing into the ground with every female companion since 2005....so they needed something new to beat viewers over the heads with.

I've been indifferent to Doctor Who since middle period Matt Smith. I gave "the 12th" a try, but wasn't interested. I can't say that this peaks my interest at all; certainly not enough that I want to get back into it. Seems more a political move than anything else. In fairness, I *will* look in to see, but I can't say this stunt fills me with optimism.

That's not the problem, Brian, it's what Moffat did with Clara was.

So Chibnall begins with perhaps the only lousy idea Moffat missed out on.

Yeah, but the plausibility of the Doctor becoming a woman was when Missy was revealed to be a regeneration of the Master.

Apparently, plausibility became inevitability, going by Chibnall's mindset as seen in the BBC link.

Well I didn't want it to happen but it has so time to deal with it. I'm not going to let this play out and see what happens. The plus side to this is I'm unfamiliar with the actress so she is a blank slate for waiting to become the Doctor if that's possible. Another plus is that she is easy on the eyes. I'm not giving up on the show my loyalty is unfazed.

I made it through Matt Smith and was rewarded with Peter Capaldi.
I finally made it through Moffat hopefully Chibnall and Doctor Hottie will be rewarding.

She was the wife in "The Entire History of You" episode of BLACK MIRROR. It was bugging me where I knew her from.

The BBC is going to sell a lot of dolls and maybe a pink screwdriver for the girls.  There are huge money grabbing opportunities for this schtick of Doctor Who.

Please forgive a very minor DR. WHO fan (I only watched the Tom Baker episodes on public TV back in the '80s)...

...is there any canonical reason why he couldn't regenerate into a woman?  I'm asking seriously.

Ok. How about a yellow color sonic screwdriver???  It seemed Moffat was interested in distinquishing his doctors with different color screwdrivers, Smith had a green light and Hurt's War Doctor was red and the colors changed again with Capaldi.  Whatever it'll be it will make a lot money, and a potential collector's item.

Well Moffat isn't calling the shots anymore. Any comments and speculations about what's to come are premature. We've got nothing to go on other than the next Doctor is going to be a woman.

I seriously doubt that any sort of sexist attitude is going to be present at all during her run as the Doctor either.  The point of casting a woman was to be progressive. Making comments like her having a pink Screwdriver for girls is so regressive. If the BBC were to make that move it would blow up in their faces.

I'll quote a post I wrote on another forum where there's much whinging and teeth-gnashing over this announcement:

*1966: Some people were shocked and upset that the Doctor Who lead actor changed.

*1970: Some people were shocked and upset they cast a well-known comedic actor in the lead role.

*1974: Some people were shocked and upset they cast a relative unknown as the Doctor.

*1981: Some people were shocked and upset they cast a well-known young actor in his thirties (oh dear!).

*1984: Some people were shocked and upset they cast an actor famous for playing villians.

*1987: Some people were shocked and upset they cast an actor known for childrens television and sticking ferrets down his trousers to get laughs.

Each and every time upset fans predicted that it would kill the show for good.

Current Scorecard for number of Doctor Who franchise kills:

Trouser-Ferret McCoy: 1
Everyone else, including Pat Trout-in-my-pants: 0

I don't forsee this score changing any time soon.

That's ridiculous, the sexist issue is based on your wild assumptions of what I wrote.  I explained my point, and I left out sonic by accident, it was not intentional.  Stop assuming the negative.  Get a life.

I didn't make an issue out of you leaving out the word Sonic it is your sexist thinking that made more out of it than I did. As was your writing it be pink for girls. As if girls wouldn't want one for any other reason.

I made no assumptions. I made an observation based upon your comments. I responded to those comments and take your own advice. Get a Life.
