I'm not certain if it's confirmed or just a rumor.
Don't click the link if you don't want to know.

The 'Sun' is the UK's cheesiest/sleaziest tabloid, and its credibility is suspect. Although, I noticed their link, off to the side, that says that North Kore's failed nuke launch was TOTALLY American cyber warfare,,,they're bound to be right SOME of the time!

I don't know if these rumors are true but I'm a fan of one of this actor's films, so I couldn't help myself ...

Terrible choice if it's true. Just can't see it myself.

Not keen on the choice if it IS him.The Sun is not the
U.K.`s cheesiest, sleaziest tabloid that dubious honour
goes to The Sunday Sport!
The things with these tabloids is that sometimes they
are right! Also i read that betting companies have
suspended betting on Kris Marshall, which suggests
someone in the know started placing large bets on the
outcome and the companies got scared!

If it's true then Kris Marshall is an interesting choice and not one of the 'usual suspects' that people put forward whenever the Doctor regenerates. He's a good actor equally at home with comedy and drama, and at 44 he's not another 'boy band' Doctor(which is something I feared). As a viewer, I'd be prepared to give him a fair chance in the role... IF he has been cast.

Something about his face rubs me the wrong way. But if he ends up being cast I'm prepared to give him a chance.

The post on the other thread about David Bradley has reminded me about how many Doctor Who actors Chris Chibnall seems to have used in the three series of Broadchurch (David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, Arthur Darvill, Eve Myles, Bradley, Jonathan Bailey to name but six) that it got me wondering if he might reverse the trend and cast a Broadchurch actor in DW.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, a regular in season two, is already one of the favourites to play the Doctor but I'd be inclined to go with Andrew Buchan or James D'Arcy as outside bets.

It has been announced that the official word on the next Doctor will be coming on July 16th.  If it is going to be talked about in other threads. Please don't spoil it by putting the name in the title of the thread. I don't want to know until it happens on screen.

Apparently Chibnallhas gone to the BBC with some ideas for his first season that he never thought they'd agree to but they did; however, assuming this didn't extend to casting and McGann and Waller-Bridge are out of the picture, I'm going with Andrew Buchan. He's not an actor that is particularly knownoutside the UK, I suspect, but has a reasonable TV profile here and was in Chibnall's Broadchurch. He also played Matt Smith's brother in Party Animals, a short-lived political series so that could be an omen.

I'm desperately hoping that it is not Kris Marshall though. I think he carries too much baggage from other appearances and, given that the next series is going to be the jumping on point for my ten- and eight-year old sons I so don't want him to be their Doctor.

(As an outside, hedging my bet, Daniel Rigby who I favoured last time around has had little mention this time. He'd be a great shout.)

I agree that Kris Marshall has too much baggage and i
would prefer a relative unknown, but the McGann option is
very tempting, even if it`s just for one series.

Edited to add...Matthew,just looked up Daniel Rigby,i`m
afraid his role in those irritating B.T. adverts put me
right off him!

I'd agree, Bill, that those ads do grate but check him out in his BAFTA winning performance as Eric Morecambe or in the Black Mirror episode The Waldo Moment to see that he would have the acting chops to take on the Doctor.

A reflection from the success of The Force Awakens and Wonder Woman.  No biggie.  I wish her a great run, in the mean time for me, I deserve a long break from watching Doctor Who.  I'll return when the character regenerates into a man.

I was convinced Chibnall would cast one of the leads from Broadchurch but never thought he would go for a woman.
