There are so many inspirational masterpieces in this thread. The self-portrait of JB with all the heroes surrounding him reminded me of how real it all felt back then. Thank you for posting.

This popped up on comicartfans a few days ago. What an incredible self
portrait by our own John Byrne:

I want it.

That Byrne self-portrait with most of the Marvel characters he'd worked on would make a great poster.

I've always really loved this two-page spread by John Paul Leon of Galactus facing off against the Celestials.

Definitely Banshee. Yellow and green costume in the published art.

Frazetta again. I just love inks from classic illustrators. They don't "ink" the lines, they paint with ink.

I just came across this.  Not sure of the circumstances of Joe Jusko painting an old John Buscema pic, but I like them both!  (And Jusko DID give Buscema credit.)

I've appreciated Leon's work since he drew those first issues of STATIC way
back when...

Eric, that Conan piece was from the inside cover of Savage Sword of Conan (not certain which issue #, but early in the series. #30ish?)

The first time I saw the painted version by Joe Jusko was for the cover of Back Issue magazine #12. (Instant purchase for me!)

If ever I want to depress the crap out of myself, I look at Moebius. I never get as far as the design, or the composition, or the draughtsmanship… I just look at the brush strokes in the inking and think: Give up. That's genius, right there, in every line.

That Moebius Surfer piece is pretty darn hard to beat.

Steve, it's from Earth X.

Wallace, me too. He's one of my favorite artists working today. Wish he'd do more high profile stuff and more of it. These days I think he's working on Mother Panic which is very low on most folks' radars. That said, some of the more obscure stuff he's done like Winter Men was actually really good. He did do a couple of issues of X-Men during the Morrison run.

George Evans is one of those in a  group of artists I use to inspire my own work.

1) Great John Buscema drawing (goes without saying of course).

2) No X-Men on that page. From 1974?
