The favorite series thread has piqued my interest. I'm always fascinated by the thought processes of others, and the way in which my work reaches them.

So, here's my own version of Matt Reed's challenge: name the THREE (3) scenes from books I have worked on that have caught your imaginations. These can be books I drew, wrote, or both. But only 3, and like with Matt's game, no ties or runners-up!

If so inclined, add a short descriptive passage telling what it was about the scene that "spoke" to you.

1) Last two pages of Alpha Flight 12. Tension-filled, brutal, and jarring.

2) Last two pages of FF 238. As a relative comic book newbie at the time, figuring that Ben's transformation was 'permanent' was a jaw-dropper. Again, wonderful and effective story-telling.

3) Superman 1. The sequence where Superman discovers the scientist that has been 'stalking' him is incredibly effective. I'd grown up with the Swan Superman, so learning about this 'new' guy was a real treat.

I won't give issue numbers because true fans will know exactly the scenes I am talking about....

 1) Thor smashing the tug boat that was thrown at him by the Living Monolith.  I have said it over and over again.  My favorite comic panels of all time, period end of story...and yes, Mr. Byrne says he didn't like the layout of that page.  Too bad.  What's done is done.

2) Captain America standing in the doorway challenging Iron Fist who seems to have caused Jarvis some harm....and the fight that occurs right after.  Cap is my favorite hero and here he is drawn with the physical heft and presence that only Mr. Byrne can consistently give him.

3) Sauron standing over a fallen Storm and challenging the X-Men in the Savage Land.  This is notable because (don't laugh) I was fascinated that Storm's breasts seems to be affected by gravity!  As a young (early teen) artist who used comics to 'learn' how to draw, that was a revelation!  Usually comic book breasts remain skyward as if resisting gravity like a mutant power regardless of the pose or situation.  Not so this time.  Boobs behaving like boobs in comics were worth noting.  And the fight that followed was kick ass.

Completely off the top of my head while I drink coffee at Starbucks:
1. The reveal of the Black Queen where Scott is freaking out.
(Hindsight being what it is, I now see the Andru influence in the
framing, and he was my favorite before I knew your name)

2. Wolverine vs. the Hellfire Goons

3. The silent part of ALPHA 13

I'll have to give some thought to coming up with three, but off the top of my head, the scene that would have to be at the top is the final page of FF 267, when the doctor broke the news to Reed of the death of their child.

Here goes:

1. FF (can't remember the #) -- a double-page spread of an embattled Doomstadt. Phenomenal level of detail, yet the pages didn't seem crowded.

2. FF -- Johnny shows up at Julie Angel's apartment after searching for Frankie Raye. His uniform looked like hell! That was something new for me.

3. West Coast Avengers (Visionquest) -- When the Vision is reassembled and appears white, his reasoning for that made so much sense to me that I thought "Of course!"

Splash page to Daredevil 138 Daredevil fighting The Smasher. It was
the first time that I saw Daredevil fighting someone so MASSIVE. It
just exploded on the page. I loved The Smasher's costume

Captain America 253 final page with Baron Blood about to stick his
fangs in Captain America's neck.

X-men 141 opening Splash and scene.... What the hell had happened
to the world! It completely swept you away....

MARVEL TWO IN ONE # 100, when Ben arrives in the alternate reality...and sees the devastation of New Amsterdam.
(Incidentally, question about that story...how were 'refugees from Europe' able to cross the dried-up expanse that used to be the Atlantic Ocean?)

JB before I post my scenes I'd like to ask a question. When you mean scene. Can I interpret "scene" as a multi paneled comic page ? I'm asking because I'm thinking about the page in Captain America where he decapitates Baron Blood.

I’m going to limit myself to scenes captured in single panels.

* “I just can’t make this real.”

* “I am Sathanas!”

* “You’re a little late with that, doctor.”

In addition to all coming from the same series, each of these three scenes has
a more telling thing in common. I wonder if any of you will realize what that is.
