1. Terrax grabbing Doom and fusing his armor

2. The Vision laying disassembled across a large table
after being kidnapped in West Coast Avengers

3. Doc Samson breaking his hand after knocking out the

The first comic scene that blew my young mind:

The first comic scene that made me cry like a big wuss:

And a scene that made me laugh out loud:

I purposefully avoided checking out what other posters here listed until after I took the time to consider my choices. I wanted to go with my first thoughts...

1) Marrina slashes at Puck and injures him.

I know it's irrational of me, considering what really caused her to do it, but from that moment on I despised Marrina. I was a young teen when I read first read the story, and I think if I had been older I might have been more sympathetic towards Marrina, since she couldn't control her impulses. But at the time, I didn't care about the excuse, I was pissed that she did that to Puck.

The fact that she later became the monstrous Leviathan in "The Avengers" years later didn't help me feel any better about her.

2)

Logan's run (see what I did there?): "Uncanny X-Men" #122

I know JB has come a long way in rendering clothing and drapery, but I still think even in the earlier works there was a certain something that most other artists didn't seem to catch onto when drawing clothing. For the 10-year-old me, the panel above was a revelation on how clothing could be shown to flow in a static picture. Being an artist, it is something that stuck with me and certainly was (is) an influence on how I draw.

I realize you will likely cringe at it now, JB, but I still love the way you drew that panel.

3)

Susan Richards loses her child. "Fantastic Four" #269.

The use of the thick, black border drives home the tragedy of what happened. Proof of how the use of page design can influence and emphasis emotion.

  • Namor - scene describing the brutal nature of plants and what a constant war plant life is. I think about it while gardening. I've always wondered about where this idea came from.
  • Fantastic Four - scene where every alien race sees Galactus in a different way. It gave me something to ponder on how different races and cultures would see a god.
  • X-Men - scene with Scott and Jean on the plateau before going to fight the Hell Fire club. You don't need to read the words to see the tenderness. I wanted them to be able stay together.

These are the first that immediately came to mind:

Beast and Phoenix in the snow (X-MEN #113 & 114)

Gyrich dictating to the Avengers & firing Hawkeye (AVENGERS #181)

The whole opening to FANTASTIC FOUR #232

About that page to "Avengers" #181, I have wondered for years -- And never thought to ask you on the board, JB -- Did you draw that page first and Perez drew a similar scene used for that issue's cover, or was it the other way 'round?

Following the same rules for selection as the series thread and stealing Wallace's notion...

#1 "I see. And in what manner did you terminate Arcade for this affront to the personage of Doom?"

#2 "You... make an intriguing argument, Bruce. Only--it just wouldn't be the two of us..."

#3 "Why, don't you see, Bon Bloom? That would make him... nicer than us!!"

(List subject to change the next time the question's asked.)

(Edited to correct typo.)

Dave, I immediately recognized #1, and think I know #2, but #3 has me

These popped first thing.

-Last scene in IRON FIST #6. I can practically narrow it down to that scene that had me check the credits for the first time to see who the artist was.

- Doomsday.1- The scene where the armless ,legless prison warden stays behind to reclaim some dignity. Great writing. Great art!

-Avengers- When Cap handed over his shield to Wonder Man to go battle Count Nefaria.
