It's been 17 years since Ultimate Nick Fury was introduced. I wonder if Marvel was still fielding complaints in 1980 about the Johnny Storm Human Torch?

Reeve's Superman is the gold standard, of course.
I don't think the Hulk is a "gimme." Lou Ferrigno was outstanding, but still just slightly bigger-than-normal, really muscular dude in make-up. And the mark was missed by a mile in HULK. THE INCREDIBLE HULK was a big step in the right direction. And I think they finally nailed it with the Avengers movies.
The Raimi Spider-Man suit was good. And the CIVIL WAR/HOMECOMING Spider-Man looks really good, too.

I'm recalling that the first Black Canary in "Arrow" had the costume right, right down to the mask ************************************************************ **************** The GA Black Canary only wore a mask in her earliest appearances.
By the time she got her own strip and joined the JSA she had dropped the mask.
The Silver Age version was maskless.

None of the Black Canary costumes from ARROW have looked anywhere near like the comic version.
The Hoff looked pretty good as Nick Fury. Its just too bad that Harrison Ford didn't play the character in the mid-late 80's.

Captain Marvel - dammit, I forgot Captain Marve. Both those stupid Roast of/Callenge of the Super Heroes and Shazam! had him right. Actually, quite a few of those were pretty good.
I said the Hulk is a gimme just because you get a guy who's big and bulky, and green body paint and torn trousers, and you're pretty much there. CGI doesn't count as an actor, I think.
Black Canary - yeah, my memory flagged on me; Sara Lance didn't look a lot like her. And I suppose I was thinking original more than "iconic."
Samuel L. Jackson and Nicky Fury? Hee hee hee...

Burt Ward as Robin, definitely.
Ron Perlman as Hellboy looked like the comicbook come to life.

Yes, it did! I find the BPRD books far more interesting than those featuring Hellboy, but really appreciate the job Perlman did with the movies.

Obviously hated the costume, but I thought Lewis Wilson was very good as a Golden Age Bruce Wayne.

The Deadpool suit looks pretty faithful.
I'll go along with Burt Ward as Robin...
Much has been wrong with any attempt at a Fantastic Four movie, but the Silver Surfer looked pretty good.
I also thought Sandman looked the part.
And with those last two (and to some degree, the first), CGI is crucial to the look, so I think totally CGI characters are legit, if done well (such as the Avengers' Hulk). When it's hauntingly evident they can get it wrong (*cough*-Galactus-*cough*), I think it "counts" when they get it right.
And as for Lou Ferrigno...yes, that was good casting. But not a "gimme", still. The first choice was Richard "Jaws" Kiel, after all (which, if you're going for the Kirby "slab Hulk", wouldn't be a bad choice, I suppose, but by 1977, the Hulk had been betrayed as uber-muscular for years...)

Sandman looked good, and so did the Penguin and the Riddler....
...But how can these be a valid answer to the question posed of "What hero, in live action movies or TV, has been your favorite based only on how true their costume adhered to the iconic look of the comic books?"
