He had the capacity to play an eerily chilly villain in nearly ever role he took.  I remember him as far back as playing Jim Jones in the 80s miniseries about the People's Temple.  He was fantastic in that role as he was in nearly every other he took thereafter, always bringing a sense of dread and malice to even the most outwardly quiet characters.  68 ain't no kind of age to succumb to "natural causes".

RIP

Just read about this. Another great talent leaves us. Loved his performance in Tombstone, and so many other great roles. RIP.

First thing I really remember seeing him in was as the protagonist in 1985's The Emerald Forest. Most recently, he was very good in Agents of Shield. He owned the role of crazy patriach, but his talents went well beyond that and it's a loss for TV and film to lose such a memorable actor.

Watched TOMBSTONE a week or so ago, and for the umpteenth time. Appreciated his performance there, and elsewhere.

Sad to hear.
After his role in AOS it was obvious he still had plenty to give,

Perfectly played his roles in Frailty and Tombstone among others.

R.I.P. Powers Boothe.... a solid character actor and memorable in his roles in TOMBSTONE. DEADWOOD, SIN CITY and in AGENTS OF SHIELD.

I pondered whether he was sick a few years back when he didn't look great and his character was rather suddenly written out of NASHVILLE, though it seems he worked on multiple projects subsequently so who knows.   One of those character actors with a buzzing behind the eyes that lent instant menace to whatever part he played.  RIP

Loved his voice over as Grodd in JL/JLU.

I remember enjoying Powers Boothe in the PHILIP MARLOWE series on HBO back in the 80s. Also enjoyed his recent run on AGENTS OF SHIELD. Rest in peace.

Even when '24' was past its sell-by date, Boothe did an excellent job as one of a long line of that show's Evil Bastard From Hell Presidents.

Enjoyed all his work. Really spooked me in his Jim Jones role.

He did so much good work. I particularly remember the movie "By Dawn's Early Light", about a nuclear crisis, with some talented performers - Rebecca De Mornay, James Earl Jones, Martin Landau, Rip Torn, etc. It was an HBO movie, but it was solid as a rock.

Of course, there's no way to pick only one performance; he was swell in most everything I saw him in. Did his Marvel work recently. Sad to lose a talent like his.

He was really good in the most recent HATFIELDS & MCCOYS miniseries, too.

My first exposure to him was SOUTHERN COMFORT, which I watched over & over & over again back when we first got cable & HBO, way back in 1982.  Then of course I watched RED DAWN over & over & over again a couple years later after that.

In both, he played a good guy, so it's long been amusing to me that Powers Boothe was often looked-upon as a heavy.  But he could play those roles just as well!

Always a welcome presence, and will be sadly missed.

RIP

He could make my skin crawl just by smiling!

He was my introduction to Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe in an early HBO series. He defined the character for me and led me to read the books

RIP. I love Tombstone but my favorite Powers Boothe film has to be Southern Comfort.
