There are very few people whose name in a sentence like that could bring a smile to my face, and John McCain isn't on that list.

Sadly, there is very little about this Final Act McCain that makes me happy. Once, I thought of him as the Republican who Democrats could vote for, but somewhere during his campaign for President something got lost. He seemed to become all about winning, and swung further and further to the Right.

I wish him well as he takes on the greatest battle of his life but, sadly, win or lose, I fear the real John McCain is already dead.

My first thought which I've seen echoed by others is does this explain his absolutely bizarre line of questioning during the Comey hearing?

But, anyway, I wish him well.

I think my thoughts echo yours, JB.  I harbor no ill will to him, and hope his fight against his cancer has a chance for success.

As an Arizonan my perfect ending would be that he fully recovers and that he retires.

You pretty well echoed my thoughts on him JB. There was a time I might have voted for McCain myself. However, after he met privately with Bush jr over the war in Iraq, something really changed in him.

If only we'd had President McCain in January 2001...

If only he hadn't so severely deranged American political campaigning and, I hate to say, permanently damaged his own legacy by just one decision: Sarah Palin.

He's one of the few Republicans out there who seems to have a genuine self-effacing sense of humor about himself.  Something almost completely lacking in one Donald J. Trump.

A video is circulating about how McCain would correct people and not allow the public to bad mouth Obama at McCain rallies during his campaign. They are juxtaposing it with The Psycho Circus Peanut's behavior at rallies. There are redeeming qualities about McCain, but he is not without flaws. I certainly wish him well in treatment and recovery, but think the GOP has left him behind in how they treat opposition. The GOP sees any opposition as the enemy regardless of how it is thoughtful, intelligent or informed.

My feelings echo those already expressed by JB.

Cancer is a hated nemesis of mine, and I hope that everyone doing battle with
that terrible disease (now and in the future) has the necessary strength,
support and health care to defeat it.

An American hero. His daughter is probably my favorite current Republican. I wish him and his family well. Tough times ahead.

2001....if only....

I beat cancer. While it was nowhere on the scale of what Senator McCain has to deal with, I know a tiny bit of what he's going through... and I hope that the healthcare to which HE is entitled is sufficient to salvage him.

I had thought that he could have been an acceptable president until Sarah Palin... and then, I was afraid that, were he elected, the stress would get him quickly, and President Palin was unacceptable to me.

While he's gone wheeling back right, I still had - and have - hopes that he could be a rallying figure to counter the Trump. I wish him a quick and total recovery. As well as so many other cancer victims... I have big wishes.

The country owed John McCain a great debt for his military service under terrible circumstances.  Then he brought Sarah Palin into our lives.  Now I think we are about even.
