Coming soon:

Haven't seen the 70s version. Or the movie from years ago.

Not entirely enthusiastic because not sure how much mileage there can be about a series exclusively devoted to a S.W.A.T. team. But I suppose I'd tune in, although I prefer shows about either patrol cops or detectives.

By the way, we haven't really had an equivalent show here in the UK. The acronyms we use may not be as catchy. S.W.A.T. sounds cool, and is the default term for any sort of armed policing, but here they're called something different: the Metropolitan Police call their unit Specialist Firearms Command. My police force area (West Midlands) has a Firearms Unit.

A show called "Firearms Unit" doesn't sound as glamorous or as enticing as S.W.A.T.

The American SWAT was short-lived, despite high ratings, and a chart-topping theme song. This version will probably be short-lived, without having either of those things.

Did you enjoy the 70s series. Mr O'Neill?

If it's on DVD or Netflix, I'd consider giving it a go.

There was a Canadian SWAT team show, Flashpoint, that made it to the US and ran to five seasons and 75 episodes a few years ago. I've only seen an episode or two in passing.

I'll look that one up, Luke. Very few Canadian shows seem to make it to British TV channels. And because virtually no advertising of Canadian shows exists over here, we don't even become aware of them.

We only seem to buy US and Scandinavian shows over here. ;-)

I have next to no memory of the original show, although I definitely heard the theme sing still being played on radio after the show was cancelled(and then the song likewise disappeared until disco became the big 'retro' radio format of the late '90s).
At some point in the early '80s, a station in my area repeated the series, and I watched an episode, but didn't stick with it.

I feel that S.W.A.T. teams work better as supporting units in regular police shows.

The S.W.A.T. team featured in the likes of HILL STREET BLUES. The likes of T.J. HOOKER featured an episode with S.W.A.T. officers. But I think the most compelling police shows are about either the uniformed patrol divisions or detectives (with HILL STREET BLUES focusing on both).
