Speaking of grass-roots movements, Brandon Molale campaigned long and hard to land the role but I don't know if he was even actually considered by this production.  Probably too much of an unknown to land the lead and he's "old" for the part now.  Not to mention pretty bald.  I guess a wig would work but maybe they didn't want to deal with it?

I certainly thought Zachary Levi worked as Fandral in the Thor movies, but this I have a hard time seeing.

The Vhing Rhames jokes remind me this movie won't be an adaptation of Captain Marvel at all, but a New Coke Captain-Marvel-In-Name-Only piece of garbage. So what if Vhing Rhamhes plays Sivana if it's some NotSuperman rip-off crap? If I want a Superman rip-off I can buy Superman.

Kevin Brown - read all of my post, lad. I know that Mr. Byrne was being sarcastic. I tried my hand at the same... though of course, I can never equal the master. :)

Twenty years ago, I thought character actor Carlos Gomez had a good look for the Big Red Cheese. . .

The Wrap reports that actor Mark Strong, who played Sinestro in GL, is in talks to play Sivana.

Levi's definitely the right personality but the wrong body type.  But I thought Gal Gadot was too skinny for Wonder Woman and she worked out great. We shall see how much he can bulk up (or if they do Cap's loose-fitting shirt, it may not matter).

The thing that really gets me is the BLACK ADAM movie.  Nobody in the general public knows the character (the Joker and Dr. Doom haven't even had solo movies), it's not a great name (not out of context at least), and the character is one of the most obvious "opposite of the hero" numbers--it doesn't really make sense for him to have a solo movie ever.  I can only think they have the Rock committed and don't want to wait four or five more years to introduce him in the SHAZAM sequel.

The aggravating thing is that they have in recent years built him up as DC's answer to the Sub-Mariner, and I imagine his movie will play that way more than just "Captain Marvel's enemy."  So, like THE INCREDIBLES, the copy gets a movie before the original.

WB officially announced that one of the leads on Disney Channelís "Andi Mack", Asher Angel, will take on the role of Billy Batson, the young boy who transforms into Captain Marvel.

Back in grumpy old fan mode, I think Captain Marvel is most charming when it takes a juvenile approach. I loved his stories in World's Finest, with Don Newton art, but I think they were still whimsical.
I'd rather see an animated version on the Cartoon Network (though not so broad like Teen Titans Go!) than a film whose creators will want to make dark or grim to appeal to adults.
By the way, besides animated films, are there any movies aimed primarily at children now?

I wonder if we'll get Billy Batson &
Captain Marvel, or Billy Batson and
Captain Billy Batson in a a grown up body?
(F*cking hate that DC turned Captain
Marvel into Tom Hanks' Big in the
comics.)

SHAZAM! star Zachary Levi shared his thoughts on how the movie will play out and made an interesting comparison about the tone of the film....

"Basically. Itís like Superman meets Big, and thatís just so fun. I get to be a superhero thatís excited about being a superhero, and I think thatís refreshing. Itís not glum, and like, ĎOh, I have to save the world again.í So I think itís all really gravy."

He also hopes for a cameo from Wonder Woman, because "sheís awesome!"

This is not looking good.

So now the rumors are Henry Cavill's Superman will have a cameo.... UGH... seriously, this is definitely on the wrong path if they try to shoehorn someone into this movie. SHAZAM needs to be self-contained so it can stand on its own merits. BTW, I think they've made a mistake if they don't add Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam into this... even as a cameo. (Add him as a flashback sequence explaining how he was the Wizard's first choice gone bad.)

C! - "Self contained"? Marvel's movies have shown that that just isn't happening. Same with DC's since "Man of Steel."

SHOULD it be separate? I'm game for that. But the money boys can't have that anymore.

Honestly, "Batman Forever" could have avoided forcing this issue if Bruce Wayne would just have said, "The circus is halfway to Kansas City." But no... they had to put in a cheeky reference to Superman. SHEESH!

I absolutely loathe Gregory Maguire's nauseating "Wicked" series. Just about everything that can be done in a sickening, offensive manner is, with extra helpings of awful piled on top, just for maximum effect. Seriously, I can't come up with anything in fiction I flat-out despise as much. Except maybe... maybe... the "Gollygosh! Nobuddy seemsta knowz i'm justa lil' kid in a grown-up body! Whatta rush!" version of Captain Marvel. Absolutely gorge inducing. Can't stand it. Not even for a single panel. Hate it hate it hate it.

Here's where I really have a problem though. I actually kinda like "Wicked, the Musical," which is, of course, dependent upon that wretched fanfic series of novels for it's existence. I like some of the humor. I like most of the songs. I genuinely like Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. I think the decision-makers who pre-empted the possibility of those two in a "Wicked" film should be put up against a wall and shot*. And then shot again. And then cremated, mixed with plaster, and spread over the wall they were shot against so they can be shot over and over again in perpetuity.

My life is really going to suck if this god-awful "Big/Vice Versa/Like Father Like Son/Freaky Friday/ Robin Williams in the funny-Progeria movie, Jack" retread turns out to be any good... Fortunately, that's not too likely.

* Metaphorically, of course.

The first official photo of the SHAZAM costume has been released (below)... I am sorry to say, I kind of strongly dislike it.  The alternating gold and red on the boots is pretty terrible and there is just something WRONG with the lightning bolt emblem on his chest.  I think it might be the thickness of the gold trim around the yellow bolt - it's not crisp and sharp enough.  For example, look how the bottom point of the lightning bolt seems to end, not in a point, but in a flat line.

Also, I hate to say it, but unless this is being billed as a comedy - I don't think this is the right kind of photo to release as your premiere, "first-look" photo!

It is also clearly padded in a way the Marvel suits don't reveal as sharply. Zachary Levi got in very good shape for the movie but he just doesn't have the physique of a Dwayne Johnson or even Henry Cavill who can bulk himself spectacularly.

Everything I've heard/read so far points to this being a comedy.  In that respect, the official pic seems entirely appropriate.

After the doom & gloom of most of the other DC films, I'm hoping this is the breath of fresh air that DCEU needs.  I'm willing to give this one a shot, since I don't enjoy their current versions of Batman and Superman in the least.  Hoping this one surprises me.

All the evidence tells us that this is intended to be a fairly light-hearted, "BIG"-style comedy flick about a troubled teen who gains the power to change his body into that of a super-powered adult.

That being said, this is then a terrible choice to make as a first release photo since it would take minimal photoshop work to turn this into a scene wherein underaged Billy has used his "BIG-"style transformation to buy himself and his pal some alcohol from the local liquor store.

Brilliant move.

I notice the kid beside him has a crutch. I wonder if that's supposed to be Freddy.

This movie leans heavily on the Geoff Johns-Gary Frank material. That kid is Freddy (who in this iteration is Billy's best friend & confidant).
