Talk about reaching for a totally unknown.

Jamie Maddrox is, at best,  a 3rd/4th rate character.

It does seem bizarre.

I know we all have our favourites (jeez, I'm "lobbying" for Catman to one day be in a Batman movie), but this is not a film I thought would be of interest.

Madrox became a fan-favorite in the Peter David/Larry Stroman/Joe Quesada run on X-Factor in the early nineties, and that was a huge seller at the time. Madrox was the lead in the 2000-something revival of X-Factor, so he's actually got decent name recognition among supporting X-characters. Could be fun.

Franco plays twins on THE DEUCE. This strikes me as reflexively  simplistic fanboy casting a la "Emma Stone would be a perfect MJ Watson because she used to dye her hair red" and "Arnold Voosloo would be a perfect Luthor because he played a bald guy once."

Hmm. I actually have all the Night Nurse comics but I remember nothing about them. Don't even remember the character's name.

Just looked it up. Wonder why they didn't give her the character's name, when they planned along to have her as Night Nurse?

Could be fun. FOX's superhero movies tend to do better with a single lead actor, simpler stories and lower SFX budgets.

Setting aside for a moment my disappointment with all things Marvel, these days, Jamie Madrox could, indeed, be fun -- tho somehow I expect a lot of time will be dedicated to Doctor Manhattan style sex scenes.

Well, at least the casting shouldn't be difficult... :)

It makes me wonder if a good solo series could be workable for characters who customarily are only team members who didn't have their own titles. Could there be a good series for, say, Valkyrie or Nighthawk? Black Canary or Elongated Man or Red Tornado? One of the X-Men (well, notwithstanding the obvious!) Gambit, Iceman, the Beast? Speedy or either of the Wonder Girls?

The point is perfectly made; if the story and writing are good enough, then the character should be a good fit - be it Aquaman, Daredevil, or Swamp Thing.

Have I missed something? Claire Temple was not the titular NIGHT NURSE. That was Linda Carter.

And Claire was a DOCTOR, not a nurse.

Yeah, they've kinda merged them into one character.

Originally, the character was going to be named Linda Carter, but the movie side said they were planning to use her, so they just took Claire Temple's name.

I'm guessing that the plan was to use her for DOCTOR STRANGE, since they were borrowing from Doctor Strange: The Oath mini-series, which featured a Strange/Night Nurse romance. But they ended up using the Christine Palmer name and made her a doctor, so it seems kind of moot.

The casting of James Franco - or in all likelihood whoever - is one of the biggest things that frustrates me about the X-Men movie universe. Whilst the MCU has pretty much planned ahead and kept a constant cast across all films, save for Banner and a couple of other exceptions, the X-Men movies have recast and recast major roles making consistency and continuity impossible.

So where are we at now: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast (twice), Angel, Professor X, Magneto, Caliban, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, Sabretooth, Mystique, Toad, Storm, Apocalypse, Sunspot (when New Mutants comes out), Kitty Pryde and now Multiple Man to name but eighteen parts played by more than one actor across the franchise. Simply ridiculous.

I think that some minor characters are ripe for movies. In fact, some
worked best in comics when used sparingly.
