Wasn’t that pretty much the plan from the get go with her?

Yes, of course that was the plan all along, I wasn't suggesting otherwise. Take away all that nonsense though and Clara was okay as a companion...not great, not bad...but okay. I could have liked her.

As much as I dislike the rampant self-indulgence of Moffat's MarySue-isms, it's his adoration of serial killers that bothers me the most. "Oh my, aren't sociopaths interesting? Aren't they charismatic? And SO imaginative! Dear dear me..."

One advantage of a female Doctor may be that now the writers will have to make her the super competent one to avoid charges of sexism.

Will we have a 'Mickey/Rory' type for the male companion?(Rory actually knew what he was doing some of the time, at least).

It's very strange to me, being a fan since the mid-1980's, when I devoured the entire series on PBS and there was one friend of mine who also watched the show and nobody else knew about it.  It was like the show was MINE and the rest of the world was oblivious about this really cool thing.

Now the show seems to be everywhere, but the majority of the fans only know it from its modern version.  I can't imagine that things like Tom Baker's cameo in the 50th anniversary special (or the anniversary itself), or a team-up with the 1st Doctor in the most recent episode, resonate with them at all.  And that's weird.

But they've boxed themselves in, haven't they? How will they ever return to a male doctor without being excoriated by the interweb?

How long before she gets pregnant, I wonder.

Excoriated by the people who never watched the show before Jodie Whitaker was cast?  Everyone else who has ever watched the show will react differently.

That's one of the several things I'm concerned about regarding Whittaker's Doctor - will she be shown as being supremely capable at everything to forestall accusations of misogyny?
