Lucasfilm casting a wide net... guessing they want an alternative to Rian Johnson's pitch.

If the Games of Thrones showrunners want to do space opera, I feel they should be working on an adaptation of SAGA.

This news has my interests piqued but rather cautiously. After seeing TLJ, I have no interests in seeing Johnson's trilogy.

This starts to feel like Disney are turning this into another MCU. The trilogy is clearly dead.

They're turning it into the DCU (Disney Cinematic Universe). Whether it's a Marvel, Star Wars, Fox, Disney Animation, Pixar, Disney live action animated remake, or general Disney film, there will be a premium Disney film in the theater almost every month of the year.

To that end, it looks like they're headed toward two Star Wars films/year by 2021: one "original trilogy character" film, and one "alternate trilogy" film, rotating each year between Johnson's set and the Benioff/Weiss set.

A while back when the video game Knights of the Old Republic was gaining so much popularity people suggested that pre-Star Wars setting would be perfect for TV or movies. With the popularity of Game of Thrones these two would be ideal for an Old Republic series of movies.

I wouldn't want KOTOR or anything from the EU pretty much.

The only thing that would impress me is if they got George RR Martin on board as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he did, as he looks for just about any reason not to finish his novels. I can hear the voices of his millions of fans crying out in terror ....

GRRM is going to have a sci-fi series going in addition to GoT since Nightflyers is in development.  I think Wild Cards is in development too.

I think GRRM is uninvolved with Nightflyers, apart from urging the producers to cast the female lead the same race as she was described in his novella, Black.
