I didn't realize he was still alive.

Massively influential in 20th century America.

A constant presence, it seemed, in my youth.

Millions followed him.

Not I -- not even remotely.

I will just offer condolences to his family, and for the rest stay silent.

I think it's best that I echo Mr Byrne's comments.

My uncle worked with him for many years, from 1966 - 78, as his "court photographer". They traveled the world, and it was no doubt a fascinating experience.

This is the best way to discuss religion on the internet.

I have read that Reverend Graham is to lie in honor under the Capitol.Rotunda.

PREPOSTEROUS. What makes him special? That he bilked so many people out of money that he's almost the equivalent of a congress-critter? That he lied so long and so well? That he reached so many people with his myths?

There are hundreds of people whose service to this country is memorable, honorable, and respectable who have never received such a recognition. This irks me no end.

I'm sorry he passed, but every story has an end. I know that I am diminished by the passing of every person, and that the bell tolls for me. But honoring someone whose contribution was religion seems more gimmick than a deserving recognition..

Brian,

I don't think he "blew the thread" - the very first post didn't stay silent on the death of Rev. Graham just because subsequent ones CHOSE to.  Also, I frankly don't believe the Rev. Graham is especially deserving of having his passing met with polite silence.

Yours,
Marc

I stand by my first comment. Whichever side is doing the whining about the other in the 'religion vs. atheism of the internet' debate...both sides are tiresome, and have their heads stuck irretrievably up their own butts.
Which is why I usually leave these topics alone.
