This should be fun...

Three only, please. No ties, honourable mentions or contrived reasons to pick a fourth. I want people to think about their choices, hence the restriction (anyone can write a "laundry list", but narrowing something down takes more talent).

I do quite like RESIDENT EVIL (2002). It was gripping throughout, and had some genuinely scary moments.

I did find MORTAL KOMBAT (1995) mildly entertaining. It probably works more as a spectacle, but I was entertained from beginning to end.

SILENT HILL (2006) is my third choice. It could have been a little shorter (90 minutes might have been better), but it was scary, squeezed a lot out of the premise, and was, in my humble opinion, well-produced.

EDIT: You can have fewer than three, that's fine. If you can only think of two, or even one, that's cool.

Just one for me;

MORTAL KOMBAT. I was really into the game in the early nineties. It would be the last game I dumped quarters into before I left the arcades for good.
The movie wasn't well written but I had loads of fun watching it in '95.

Nuttin.

I googled, to be sure there were no movies I had not realized were based on games, but there were none.

Does PIXELS count? If it doesn't, then I only have two:

MORTAL KOMBAT. The original is damn near perfect. The sequel, however, was the total opposite, and is only slightly better than my least favorite video-game based movie.

STREET FIGHTER. Jean Claude Van Damme is great as Guile, and the speech he gives at one point is one of my favorites ever in an action movie, Raul Julia is great as the scenery chewing villain, and Ming-Na is just plain hot.

And the funny thing is, I'm not a huge fan of fighting games and neither movie is based on my favorite fighting series. That would be TEKKEN, but I've avoided the movie based on it because I hear it's awful. Though I haven't played any TEKKEN games since 5. (I haven't had a gaming system since the PS2 and play games on PC.)

(I wish I could play and add something, even one, but I hear the term "videogame-based movie" and I avoid any & all like the plague.  Sorry, Robbie!)

Understood, guys. It's hard, to be honest. There have been, in my view, so many bad video game movies, that I'm disappointed some were ever greenlit. ;-)

As much as I used to love video games, it's a bit disheartening to realise I haven't liked a single movie based on them. Just too much apples and oranges, I guess. One thing depends on your active involvement, while the other doesn't.

That's a good point, Peter. SUPER MARIO BROS. is one example: yes, I'll play the game (been a while!), but I don't necessarily want to be a passive watcher of their exploits.

I like PRINCE OF PERSIA: SANDS OF TIME.  I never played the game, though.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)  I've solved the first two games, and actually freaked out with the first game when the T-Rex came out.  Lara Croft is actually an intriguing character.  That said, I didn't really like the first two films all that much, but I have high hopes for the new one that's coming out in March

Resident Evil I admit to having watched my kids play the game, but I've enjoyed a few of the movies.

I'm with JB, don't like any that are directly based on games.

Now, if I may sneak in a cheeky Wreck it Ralph I would. Doesn't fit into the strict rules, I suspect, but does feature Sonic the Hedgehog and a few other actual video game characters.

Hard to pick 3, but consulting the list:

Wing Commander  (I seem to like this more than most people)
Prince of Persia (I wish Disney had put as much into marketing John Carter as they did this movie)
Tomb Raider (first one)
