World of Krypton rolls off the tongue naturally (as does World of Smallville and World of Metropolis). I'm glad they were called that.

••

Full disclosure: Although I liked WORLD OF KRYPTON as a title, WORLD OF SMALLVILLE and WORLD OF METROPOLIS just sounded silly to me. I'd have much preferred to see them play to the "theme" with "TOWN" and "CITY".

Jor-El and Lara by JB and Terry Austin.

••

Terry's inking style is totally different from my own, yet the two of us together seemed to produce a whole that was greater than the sum of its parts.

There was only one place where the mesh didn't happen, and that was with Kirby Krackle. Terry's mechanical pen line was just not right for that effect, producing, as on the exploding planet, a kind of "crispy" effect that just didn't work, at least in my eyes. Kirby Krackle needs to be "blobbier".

Yes, I see that -- rather like wafers. It's impossible for me not to associate the look of this effect particularly with Phoenix.

Somehow, WORLD OF SMALLVILLE rolls off the tongue naturally (in my humble opinion), but CITY OF METROPOLIS would have been great!

I LOVED JB's WORLD OF KRYPTON when it first came out and time has done nothing to diminish that affection - in fact, it has become enhanced as I have come to appreciate Mike Mignola's artwork (which I did not at the time).  The story is so rich with drama and intrigue!!

When the series came out, Don Thompson, of THE COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE, reviewed it by saying something along the lines of "I thought Superman was getting this big reboot, but here were are back with the same old stuff."

I replied by saying I was sorry he found my incestuous clone murder story just so much same-old-same-old --- but I did wonder what he'd been reading!!

Don Thompson was a nice guy, in my experience, but he had some very curious opinions.

As I recall he did like MAN OF STEEL.

Given how much I enjoyed those books, and forums are the place to be hypothetical, I'd have loved to have seen a "World of Gotham" series.

BATMAN: YEAR ONE kind of filled that role. Frank introduced so much "previously unseen" material.

Although I have rallied against "Year One" tales as far as origins go (I think there are only so many ways to show Superman and Spider-Man's origins), I wouldn't mind some "World Of..." tales.

I'd like to have seen more of Murdock's law firm and the early beginnings of New Mexico's Gamma Base (maybe even pre-Banner). I realise that there may not be a demand for this.
