Will she immerse herself in the material and do it
justice? That's all I care about.

I'm not sure about this. A Wrinkle In Time was a mess.

"There came a time when the old gods died!"

Should be the greatest opening to the most epic film
ever made!

I have no confidence it will be remotely watchable.

I'll stick to the comics.

Well, the grimness of Apokolips is right in WB's wheelhouse.
But no, no faith at all.

I might have been interested if A WRINKLE IN TIME had received better reviews. Go fellow Bruin, I guess?

LOT of testosterone in the Fourth World. Might have prefered Kathryn Bigelow.

I was actually excited for a minute... then I remember how badly WB has been doing with DC properties.

I think Guillermo del Toro (just coming off an Oscar win!) would have been a nice choice.

So random.

Maybe the next one they announce is "DOOM PATROL" by David Lynch.

Actually, that sounds sweet.

She did immediately answer "Big Barda" when asked who her favorite character was, so that's a good sign that she is familiar with the material.  But yeah, the Fourth World material is all but sacred to me, so this brings some serious mixed emotions.

Disney required some radical alterations to the source material with Wrinkle in Time, so I'm not going to hold that against her necessarily.

Also, expect the forced diversity almost immediately.  I'll be shocked if Mister Miracle on film isn't Shilo Norman.

I think The Fourth World material will be difficult to translate to film no matter which director handles it - very "heady" stuff. Best of luck to her.

This is another sign that Warner Bros. doesn't know what to do with a cinematic DC comics universe. You don't have to follow Marvel/Disney's approach but at least create a universe that fans can understand and embrace. I don't think introducing the New Gods (in a stand alone movie) is the way to deepen the fan experience.

Warners can do this, they did it with the Harry Potter movies, but they seem to have missed it with their DC offerings.

James Gunn or Taika Waititi could easily translate to film the extraordinary vision of Jack Kirby's NEW GODS.... it's not impossible.

This project needs to be nurtured properly and it may well become a new franchise for WB. Problem is, we know they don't have the right people in place to support a proper adaptation.

I'm very happy with the idea of a stand-alone New Gods movie.

Ava DuVernay is a quality director.

I have no idea if she's the right director for this kind of film.

I'm reserving judgment.

So will this be a spin-off from Justice League 2 or will they release a New Gods movie first so there is some back story for the audience to catch up on, before the Justice League battles Darkseid?

I think that was one of the failures of Justice League, no real backstory to Steppen Wolfe or quality character building, other than just telling the audience he was the bad guy.

Having finally now seen it, I think the failure of Justice League was almost entirely due to the horribly outdated CGI.  Its hard to get involved in a serious story where the main villain, and several other characters, look like cartoons.

But I actually liked the approach of just coming into the DC Universe already in motion.  You can show Atlantis and Mera without giving the whole backstory.  You can have Steppenwolf show up without him giving a tone of exposition about his backstory and motivations (which makes more sense, since from the perspective of our heroes, they wouldn't have all of that information).  I'm assuming they'll give us backstory on Atlantis and Mera and Arthur in Aquaman.  Likewise, I assume we'll get the Fourth World backstory in a New Gods movie.

The biggest thing I don't like about the current run of superhero movies, including Marvel films, is the wash of origin stories and exposition that seems to get dumped in every single one.  Introducing and explaining New Genesis and Apokolips, Atlantis, Mera, Aquaman, the Flash, and reintroducing Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman with origin flashbacks would not have made Justice League a better movie.

It looks as though there are currently no plans a for a JUSTICE LEAGUE 2.

Probably a good idea for the foreseeable future.

Here we go.  Ready your best sigh.  (Though Kathy Bates as Granny Goodness is a bit inspired....)

Yeah, I'm gonna say... NOPE. That casting was a huge fail with the race swapping AND gender swapping.... Oprah Winfrey as Izaya????

Seriously, if WB can't be faithful to a property like Kirby's New Gods, they shouldn't waste anyone's time.

Oh calm down. That's just a random fan-cast "wishlist" by someone on the internet, not an official WB cast list. No more or less valid or influential than anything posted on this forum about who we want to be cast in the film.

I'm not concerned about any fan-created "casting" but I'm NOT jumping for joy based on WB's track record for DC related adaptations. Fingers crossed that they surprise their critics and produce something entertaining and worthy of Kirby's creations.
