In no order...

THUNDERBIRDS
UFO
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Original)
STAR TREK (Original)
SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (as much as I like the 1979 dubbed version for 'STAR BLAZERS', sticking with the original song)
ULTRA-SEVEN (Original Japanese version)
SPEED RACER
JONNY QUEST (Original)
LOST IN SPACE (Season 3 Intro)
THE BIG O (Specifically the main battle theme "Stand A Chance")

I understand that I'm known as a stickler for rules around here, but in this case I don't mean "song" literally, as in one that must be sung.  Any television theme (pure instrumental, vocals, or one that used a previously recorded hit ala the CSI franchise with The Who) is up for grabs.

Good thread, Matt! Like you, I'm a big fan of TV themes — there are so many good ones.

After I compiled my list a few others sprung to mind that I though might have been contenders  — but when I checked them out on You Tube to refresh my memory, they weren't quite as good as I thought. The list remains intact!

So, I decided to go for themes that are songs in the truest sense (in that they have lyrics) although I have just seen the subsequent post suggesting that instrumentals are accepted.

Similarly, many of my choices are songs that pre-existed before the programmes but, for me, had to work for that series as if they had been written for them.

Finally, it's a very British-centric list, although not exclusively, so apologies that many of these series never travelled. It's probably not my top ten, but the ten  best that I can think of today ...

Minder – “I could be so good for you” *Dennis Waterman

The Interceptor – “Left Hand Free” Alt J

Brush Strokes – “Because Of You” Dexy’s Mindnight Runners

Tour of Duty – “Paint It Black” Rolling Stones

The Wonder Years – “Little Help From My Friends” Joe Cocker

The Office – “Handbags and Gladrags” Big George

Boon – “Hi Ho Silver” Jim Diamond

Taggart – “No Mean City” Maggie Bell

The Bridge – “Hollow Talk” Choir of Young Believers

Royle Family – “Half The World Away” Oasis

Jeez, Peter, I can be (and am) pedantic about rules, but that list wasn't even numbered. You actually took the time to count. ;-)

Sorry I got carried away. To be fair then let's drop S.W.A.T. and add Batman (1960's live tv) and Alias. ;-)

Highlander: The Series

+++++++++++++++++

Considering it's an edited version of QUEEN's PRINCES OF THE UNIVERSE, which was the theme to the original movie, I personally think you have good taste. :)

(One of my favorite bands and one of my favorite tv shows.)

Wow. This was a tough one, as I was having a lot of flashbacks to the 70's and 80's. Here is my first cut to get it to just ten, but I may have to make edits later… In no particular order:

HILL STREET BLUES
L.A. LAW
HAWAII FIVE-O
SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN
THE PACIFIC
BARNEY MILLER
STAR TREK: TOS
M*A*S*H
HIGHLANDER: The Series
ST. ELSEWHERE

I guess it is kinda sad that only one theme from the 21st century made the initial cut... And yeah, I was a prisoner of Must-See TV during the Eighties, which explains several of my picks.

Magnum P.I.
The Bob Newhart Show
Laverne & Shirley (moreso than the show itself)
Spider-Man (60s)
Cheers
Perfect Strangers
The Rockford Files
WKRP in Cinncinati
The Greatest American Hero
