Actor Soon-Tek Oh has passed away.

I can find no English-language sites reporting on it, only Korean ones. And I haven't listed a birth year as one source says 1933, another says 1943. IMDb lists 1943. Nothing is ever simple on the internet, is it? (Various release dates for films are included, plus birthdates are never consistent). So apologies for the lack of links, but if you can translate Korean, there are a few sites reporting on it.

Whilst known for some film roles (e.g. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN), I saw far more of him on TV, hence his inclusion in the TV sub-forum.

He was in the likes of AIRWOLF, THE A-TEAM, T.J. HOOKER, HILL STREET BLUES and MAGNUM, P.I. Those were just some of his memorable roles. He always delivered a solid performance.

He was in one of my favorite episodes of M*A*S*H, a series he appeared on several times but each in a different role. I'm referring to the one where he plays a doctor who is actually North Korean.

Very sad to hear about this...

The last role I remember him in was in MULAN as the title character's father.

Sad news.

Fine actor. I remember him well from the Magnum episodes.

First I'm hearing of this. Sad.

I remember his varied roles in M*A*S*H.

Didn't know the name, but definitely knew the face.

There are many actors whose faces I know, but not their names.

Most are TV actors (mainly), e.g. they played henchman or whatever over a 10-20 year period. There are actors in, say, THE A-TEAM whose names would mean nothing to me, but I always recognised them when they appeared in a series.

No matter the role, he had this measured way of talking that made it seem as if A) every word he said was carefully considered, because he was a very careful man, and B) he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. That quality appealed to me so much on first encounter that I looked for him in anything I could find, which turned out to be quite a few things I never might have watched except that Soon Tek Oh was in them.
