Quite a milestone, right?

Probably about time. But there are a few teams I never see that happening with.

If the Cowboys ever added male cheerleaders, there'd probably be riot. I don't see Jerry Jones allowing it, though.

The Lions, who had never had pro cheerleaders until a couple of years ago, should have included males in their inaugural season. Missed opportunity.

I do find it hard to believe there were no male cheerleaders in the thirties. Female cheerleaders didn't become prominent until the forties.

Professional football wasn't highly thought of in the 1930s. The NFL didn't have cheerleaders until the mid-1950s.

Ah, that would explain that. Thanks Tim.

Well, if NFL teams are going to start adding male cheerleaders to their squads, they'll need to start changing some names.  (i.e Buffalo Jills, Cincinnati Ben-Gals)

Interestingly enough, America football and Thanksgiving kind of midwived each other, and all due to the Industrial Revolution.

See, the Industrial Revolution made it possible for even low income families to own dining tables with matching chairs, as well as matching silverware. This encouraged more "family dinners," and really bolstered the popularity of Thanksgiving. Then, Football, back in those days when sports were actually seasonal, latched onto T'Day as "their" holiday -- go see a local game, then have a big dinner (or vice versa).
