I was getting Batman but decided to drop it. I don't really care for Tom King's story.

***

His story in ACTION COMICS #1000 was quite good. His BATMAN run has been mostly awful.

Mister Miracle #8
Batman #45
Superman #45 (dropping this as I don't care for Bendis' mainstream superhero work)
Batman: Creature of the Night #3 (totally an elseworlds book even DC doesn't call them that anymore)
Lazarus #27

I have the exact opposite reaction to King's Batman stuff. Other than the first story line which I didn't particularly care for (the Gotham girl one) I think it's the best it's been in years. I also like how many one and done stories he's done while writing Batman. No trade waiting here. But I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I felt the same way about Scott Snyder's run that you guys feel about King's. I didn't get the praise and dropped it because I thought it was terrible. I still haven't read anything by Snyder that I've thought was particularly great though I thought The Wake was better than his Batman stuff at least. On the other hand, the last issue of Mister Miracle by Tom King brought me to tears.

Shane,
I struggle with Snyder's writing as well, too much of a horror vibe with his stuff for me. My problem with King's run is that (especially when Catwoman came in) everyone is better than Batman. Since she was introduced, he's been a supporting character in his own book. I don't like the "Batman always wins because he's Batman" type of stories but I feel that he's a pretty weak character as written by King. I haven't disliked every issue because there were a couple of stories that I liked but all the "Cat" and "Bat" dialogue bothers me. I gave it a fair shake but I have a former student who is a huge DC fan and just started going to my LCS, so I gave him the entire Rebirth Batman run and he loves it.

I do think the marriage of "Bat" and "Cat" (yeah, not that crazy about those nicknames either) is a mistake. Though I don't think it will last very long either. Is this really the same company that rebooted their entire line because they wanted younger versions of their characters in 2011? Now they have Batman getting married to Catwoman, aging him, and they killed off the younger Superman who had no marriage, brought back the married one and gave him a kid (which I think actually works okay for Superman in a way marriage won't really work for Batman). It just seems really odd some of the choices DC has made since the New52, though I do feel a good deal of Rebirth has been a course correction over mistakes made in the New52 and something Marvel really needs as well if they're ever going to get their lost fans back.

I really doubt that the wedding is going to happen. At the end of BATMAN #50, something will have interfered and the marriage will be off.
