Damage #6
Justice League #2
Man of Steel #4
New Challengers #2
Avengers #3
Captain America #704
Tony Stark Iron Man #1- One of my LCS guys described this as "quippy". They told me if I didn't like it that I could return it and get my money back. I don't have a whole lot of faith in Dan Slott these days but I'll try it.

I'll be getting my money back (actually I'll just trade it in for something else). Dan Slott has gotten a lot of credit for "feeling" like a classic writer with a classic understanding of the characters but honestly, his Spider-Man and now his Iron Man just don't get the job done for me. I don't have a good feeling about Fantastic Four.

A lot of Marvel Comics leave me with the feeling of "We read the same comics that you did". References to events by name "Remember in Acts of Vengeance when the Mandarin attacked...", or things like character arcs being common knowledge "Doesn't Jean Grey die ALL the time?".
Another issue I have is the marginalizing of characters perceived as "silly" by having the hero beat them in one page (think the Wrecking Crew). It takes me out of the story right away and just leaves me feeling as if the writer isn't taking their own story seriously.

Oh, GOD, yes. Between that and the sense that every new run on a series is more an adaptation than a continuation, I don't get a lot of Marvel anymore. (Of course, I say this on the week three of my four Marvel series come out... :-) ) I thought Slott's Thing series was okay, so I'm cautiously optimistic about FF, but we'll see.

Anyway, my list for the week:

Usagi Yojimbo: The Hidden #4
Avengers #3
Captain America #704
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Our Vows #20

  • Man of Steel # 4
  • Tony Stark: Iron Man # 1
  • Captain America # 704
I'll give Iron Man a few issues, although the Tony Stark presented is more RDJ than what I am used to. We'll see.

Captain America since Mark Waid took over (again) has really won me back to the character after a painful few years. I'm sorry to see him go as I enjoyed his mash up of time travel, sci-fi, and fantasy he has brought to the title for these past 10 issues. It reminded me why I loved comics in the first place.

DC:
Brave And The Bold Batman And Wonder Woman #5 - Things are set up nicely for the climax.
Wild Storm #14 - Ellis continues to sow the seeds of dissent and sets up some hope for the future.

Marvel:
Captain America #704 - Things are tied up nice and neat by Waid and Co.

Dark Horse:
Black Hammer Age Of Doom #3 - All the pieces are coming to together quite nicely in this series.
Witchfinder: The Gates of Heaven #2 - Another domino falls.

Image:
Gideon Falls #4 - Lemire coninues to add layers of mystery to this gritty little horror series.

Lion Forge:
Mae Volume 2 #1 - Beautifully illustrated escapism from Gene Ha.
