So, DC is embarrassed about Batman's Dick these days, but NOT about his dick. Sigh.

Not enough ‘sighs’ to do this justice.

Tim, DC is making an official name change to Dick Grayson.  He will no longer be "Dick," but rather "Ric." My remark above is in reference to how DC apparently has an issue with the name "Dick," yet just put out a "mature" Batman title in which there has been some hoopla about seeing Batman's private parts.

Reading past the clickbait headlines, this seems to be a storyline where Dick is recovering from a gunshot to the head and has lost his memories of everything that's happened after the death of his parents. I mean, the amnesiac superhero is a pretty standard comic book plot and an amnesiac wanting to be called something else is a pretty standard trope (everyone remember "Joseph", the amnesiac, youthfied Magneto who was later retconned into being a clone?), so DC is getting a lot of publicity mileage for what would otherwise be a typical comic storyline by playing up the Dick/Ric name change.

I'm reminded of a perennial candidate in San Diego politics, Dick Rider, who ran for several offices on an anti-tax, Libertarian platform. Through the late 80s to the early 2000s, you'd see "Dick Rider" signs every election, but at some point in the mid-2000s, he must have gotten tired of the jokes, because he started running as "Richard Rider".

Dick is one of the nicknames for Richard, that is not
really fashionable nowadays, so i can see where they`re
going.
I have never liked people using "Willy" as a shortening
of my name for obvious reasons, so i can sympathise!

In a couple years we will find out that Ric Grayson is actually Dick's Earth-X twin. They switched dimensions just as the bullet was going for Dick's head. So we will get a Nightwing relaunch, a miniseries Nightwing: the Lost Years, as well as a new book for Ricwing.

Which, to come back around to comics, is a GREAT comic
book name!

I’m reminded of the old joke about the guy named Joe Schmuck who hated his name, so he changed it to Bob Schmuck.
