I thought the windsock worked fine. For one thing, I did not recognize it as such until decades later. For another, it had the flat, featureless surface one might expect on something that had spent millions of years traveling thru intergalactic space.

Agreed. It's weird-looking enough so as to be instantly recognizable, too.

As an aside, I read that the CGI version from the Remastered episode does have bits and pieces of weapon banks hidden in some of those nooks and crannies, as a nod to Spinrad's concept. The idea being that the machine was originally bristling with weapons, but all those years of being hammered by attacking ships had ground down the machine to just its primary antiproton beam weapon.

Welp.

I put in an order for "the windsock".

Got a mini USS Enterprise Hallmark ornament that might be small enough to position in front of maw.

My own experience with the "planet killer" has been odd. When I did a follow-up story in NEW VISIONS (not really a sequel per se) there were a few negative comments based on my having assumed the crew had accurately figured out what the thing was.

It seems the "everything you know is a lie" approach as seeped so deeply into some corners of fandom that they cannot accept anything that says some things are just true as stated.

Hm. Doesn't seem worth it. I'll have to ponder.

Saw a review of the Eaglemoss Fesarius today. Too bad that one doesn’t light up, too!
