Oakland made a 1-win team with a third string QB making his first career start in his second year look like a contender.  What an UGLY game. I thought the Gruden decade-long experiment would be a disaster.  I just didn't realize it would happen so quickly.  Sad that another Carr is thrown on the trash heap of a garbage team.

Not taking anything away from the kid, but this is how truly awful Oakland is (source):

With each completed pass, Mullens seemed to reach another historical benchmark.

  • Mullens' passer rating of 151.9 was the best by a quarterback making his debut with at least 20 attempts since 1970.

  • Over the past 25 seasons, Mullens joined Marc Bulger, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Marcus Mariota as the only players to throw for three or more touchdowns in their first game, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

  • Mullens is the first player since Carson Wentz to throw a touchdown in his first career game on the team's opening drive and one of four to do it in the past 15 seasons, along with Wentz, Mariota and Matt Ryan.

  • Mullens is the first player in 49ers history to throw three touchdowns in his first game with the team, according to Elias Sport Bureau.

  • The last time a 49ers quarterback threw two touchdown passes on the first two drives of a game was Week 4 of 2016 (Colin Kaepernick). The last time the Niners scored a touchdown on their first two drives of a game was Week 14 of 2016.

Things went so well for Mullens on Thursday night that his previously unverified Twitter account was granted a blue check mark -- during the game.

Yeah, Mullens didn't screw up, and his teammates seem psyched with him, but things need to idle down.

Well, this will be easy.  We have exactly one disagree.  Sunday Night Drama!

  • Packers at Patriots (MATT DISAGREES!)
A few notes:
  1. Browns front office is the worst in sports.
  2. Lions beat the Patriots and have been so inconsistent I still can't get my head around it.
  3. Steelers seem on the way up and Ravens seem on the way down, especially on offense, but I just have s sinking feeling.  Hope I am wrong!
  4. Some great matchups.  Rams-Saints should be one for the ages, as well as Packers-Patriots (if the Packers win).
  5. This Monday's game might be worse than Thursday's offering.

Early games...

Sunday, November 4

  • Bears at Bills - Right
  • Chiefs at Browns - Right
  • Jets at Dolphins - Right
  • Lions at Vikings - Right.  Sacked Stafford 10 times, setting a franchise record.  Our D is coming into its own at just the right time.
  • Falcons at Redskins - Wrong
  • Buccaneers at Panthers - Right
  • Steelers at Ravens - Wrong
6-2 on the week so far.

Ugh.

  • I will never pick a Redskins game correctly
  • I should have had the balls to pick my Steelers.
  • Saints-Rams was an awesome game if you like offense.  Defense?  meh.  It's a dying art.
  • Packers-Patriots, even if I had picked the Patriots, SUCKED.  Both QBs looked like shit at times.  Maybe it was good D?  Didn't really look like it though.
Now 2 games behind Matt.  I left a Steelers win on the table, too.  Chuck Noll's ghost is gonna kick my ass.

Raiders at 49ers wrong  Oakland makes Mullens a star.  For one week anyway.

Sunday, November 4

  • Bears at Bills right   Chicago first in the NFC North halfway into the season?  Zounds.
  • Chiefs at Browns right  But for very close loss at NE, Chiefs would be undefeated
  • Jets at Dolphins right Bad news: Dolphins don't play Jets again.  Good news:  they play the Bills twice.
  • Lions at Vikings right  Minn. gets two weeks to prepare for looming Soldier Field showdown.
  • Falcons at Redskins wrong Atlanta quietly getting back into it
  • Buccaneers at Panthers right When you try and fail a fake punt around your own 20 in the 2nd qtr, you're unlikely to win.
  • Steelers at Ravens right  Steelers getting relevant again?
  • Texans at Broncos wrong  Broncos at home used to be a safe bet.  Not lately.
  • Chargers at Seahawks right  Seattle's gradual four season decline continues.
  • Rams at Saints right Forever dangerous Brees suddenly otherworldly (highest QB rating, completion % and best TD-Int ratio (18-1) in his 18th season.
  • Packers at Patriots right Brady just OK but Pats still grinding out wins.

Monday, November 5

  • Titans at Cowboys wrong Mariota's early career may be a bit disappointing but he reminded me he's got some game.
9-4.  87-45-2
