(My father took me to see THE MOTION PICTURE twice during its original run, so if I had to pick an anniversary re-release based on nostalgia value alone, that would probably be the one.  Less for the "human adventure," and more for the fantastic visuals and epic Jerry Goldsmith score!)

Took my teenage daughter to see THE WIZARD OF OZ last night...

Fairly decent turnout for a re-release (I'd say between 30 or 40 people), and of course the film was a joy to behold on the big screen.  At only 14, my daughter is already "old enough" to be nostalgic for this one, as she used to run around the house, dressed as Dorothy (about 10 years ago already!), asking to play pretend scenes from the movie.

Now, she can also appreciate the music, classic-film status, and the wistful joy of watching the young Judy Garland.  A fun, pleasant time at the theater.

For next month, she's already asking to see MY FAIR LADY.

FIELD OF DREAMS is a movie that made me
cry when things were good. Its a reminder
to cherish the relationships you have
because someday, it will be too late. I
haven't had the stones to watch the film
since my father died. Hopefully seeing it
in the theater will keep me from losing my
composure.

For any musical fans out there, looks like they've added MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS at the end of the year.  I've never seen it, but my eldest daughter loves Judy Garland, so that's another one I may need to add to the list.

And they're one day left to catch a special 50th anniversary presentation of EASY RIDER, tomorrow only!

(To add:  We never did see MY FAIR LADY a few months back, but we did see GONE WITH THE WIND instead.  Man, but that's a long movie!!)

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE added, for one night only (Sept. 15)!

(I'll be there.  I'd consider bringing my old-school-TREK-fan father to see it with me... if I was sure he wouldn't talk at the screen and make comments every 10 seconds!)   :(
