Will Smith met my expectations, which were very low. Where Robin Williams' performance as the Genie seemed barely contained, Smith's seemed barely awake. I've seen the Broadway show, so I know it's possible to have an energetic and funny Genie without doing a Williams impression.

Jafar was also horribly miscast, in my opinion. My wife thought he was "cute"...which is not something you'd want him to be. I guess they were trying to stick with a mostly Southwestern Asian-ish look for the primary cast, but I think there are plenty of "qualifying" actors that would have been a better fit.
The Aladdin and Jasmine actors were both quite good.
Frank Welker is back as the voices of the monkey/elephant, tiger, and cave (so, two tigers?), so that's another bright spot.
Alan Tudyk as the voice of Iago was a waste of talent and the character as he didn't do a whole hell of a lot in this.
It's not all bad, to be sure, but overall, the original film is funnier, more dynamic, and has more heart than this remake.
The young kids in the theater seemed to like it all enough, though...so, what do I know?
