I've passed on seeing most Marvel films in the theater- just not that entertaining.  Way too much fan service. Not enough substance.

I have to respectfully disagree not just about this film, but all the films you encompass with your post.   I just don't get it, but that's cool.  The MCU entertains the hell out of me.  You, not so much. Oh well.

Of all the Phase Four films, I'm looking forward to SHANG-CHI the most. Only question I have -- why did it take so long? No CGI needed for a Shang-Chi story, right?

And Mahershala Ali as the new Blade -- oh man do I want to see that. I just wonder if a PG-13 rating will do Blade justice. (He kills vampires. Gore, gore and more gore.)

...

You're right Adam, they don't "need" it, but oh boy, will they use it.

You guys talk about "CGI" like it's 1992. Of course they need it; their entire production pipeline wouldn't be possible without it, and this film won't be any different.

My point is, a martial arts movie does not need to have computer animation to enhance its story like  it would for a God of Thunder or Sorcerer Supreme. Being a Marvel movie, like I said, they will unquestionably be using their fare share of it.

Has less to do with specifically being a Marvel Movie and more to do with being a modern big-budget Hollywood film.

Most films have CGI in some form nowadays, most of it
imperceptible.

Radioland Murders & The Phantom Menace changed the way movies would be made forever. @ the time the actors complained about the amount of blue/green screen.
Now pretty much all you see in background footage are people standing in front of green screen & people in Macap suits.
There are Actors who have grown up not knowing anything else.

The Rousso Brothers used as little CGI in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER as they could get away with. I hope the same happens with SHANG-CHI.

Which still amounts to a lot of digital effects. Using practical effects whenever possible does not equate to “no CGI”.

CGI isn't bad. Bad CGI is bad.

Edited to add: Oh, and pointless CGI when practical effects will work as well.
