I recently picked up HOWARD THE DUCK COMPLETE COLLECTION, VOL. 1 and am giving it a read for the first time ever. Completely skipped the Duck the first time 'round.
I'm having a lil trouble in that I can't "hear" his voice. I fell onto Daffy Duck now and again, but that doesn't work at all. Anyone have any helpful hints on who or what Howard may sound like?
I brought along a visual aid:
PS: I skipped the movie the first time round, so I haven't referenced it.

It's a little tough, since I was only tangentially familiar with the character when the movie came out, and the voice sort of got stuck in my head. He's supposed to be an everyman (yeah, yeah, everyduck) character, so the straight-up middle-class me-generation adult male will fit.
Note that no-one in the comic ever comments on his voice, so I think it's just kind of 'there.' Seth Green was as good a choice as any.

BTW: Do yourself a favor and track down the 6-issue miniseries Gerber did for Marvel Max around the turn of the century. It's great - one of those times a creator returns to their creation after a long break and finds not only their old groove but new things to say with it.

I always visualize a 1940's New Yorker voice.

Honestly, I wonder if he just sounds like Steve Gerber?

Well, I'm off to buy the complete 4-volume complete collection. Thanks a lot for spending my money. I loved Howard the Duck back in the day and it will be fun to read them again.

Maybe his voice is like that of someone from Cleveland, since that is where he landed when he got here, and his home back on his world may have been a sort of Cleveland analog. I'd say a Cleveland accent, without any of Donald's garbled duckspeak or Daffy's sloppy sibilance.

As a foreigner, I have no idea what a Cleveland accent sounds like.

Picture Harvey Pekar? Marvel actually tried to get him to write a HTD book back in the 80's, when he wouldn't agree to such a thing (which is a very Howard kind of thing).

He always had Archie Bunker's voice when I read him. Don't ask why because I don't know.

Not a bad choice. LOL!
For anyone unfamiliar with Harvey Pekar, he was the writer of the comic book "American Splendor." Paul Giamatti played him in the biopic by the same name.
Here's clips of Pekar on "Late Night With David Letterman" for reference:
