I had an older cousin that had me listening to Louder than Love before any of the big stuff came out. Then, when Badmotorfinger came out, it absolutely blew my mind. Pearl Jam has always been my band, but Soundgarden ainít that far behind.

My cousin was three years younger at 15 he was into Alien Ant Farm Danzig The Doors Nirvana  .... think my collection at that point was David Lee Roth solo stuff and Tesla and some Aerosmith

Been listening to best of the board funny enough they really sound more like the successors to Black Sabbath than anything grunge.

I'd say that Soundgarden sounded more like Black Sabbath than, say, any of the thrash metal bands. When Louder Than Love came out I foolishly dismissed them as "Led Sabbath," i.e. derivative. Then I heard "Jesus Christ Post" and "Outshined" and quickly changed my mind.

Temple of the Dog covered "War Pigs." You can find it YouTube. Sounds great.

I wish they had come anywhere near me. Those were magical shows. Oh well, at least I got to see them at PJ20.

I'm from Portland, so all of the Seattle bands made various trips down I-5 and played.  Mudhoney was always my favorite.  Soundgarden was a close second.

Mudhoney is the one that never quite made it onto radio. Same with the Melvins -- and the Melvins were a large influence on both Soundgarden and Nirvana.

I remember reading a review of Louder Than Love in Rip! magazine when I was in high school. It's still my favorite album by them. Funny that they were considered metal at that point before we had to start micro-classifying rock music.

The band from that era (and area!) I wish I could have heard more of was Mother Love Bone.
