Looks like Claremont’s second treatment was simply issue 150.

It doesn’t seem as though the world is in any way lessened by these projects failing to happen.

Well, at least it was nice to read actual Marvel Comics writers were involved in initial treatments.

The casting would have been fun to think about. Maybe we could have gotten a Mel Gibson Logan and Arnold Schwarzenegger Colossus. :)

But no sets, costumes, cameras or crew, as those two ate the whole budget.

Hiring actual comic writers is a multi-edged sword, as this article somewhat indicates. While the first assumption is that so doing would lead to a greater degree of fidelity to the source material, there is simultaneously the danger that writers will be faithful to only their own material, and that they will take the opportunity to bring in elements which, for various reasons, they were not able to do in the books.

Thanks, JB. That's an interesting point that I didn't think of. Looking at it that way, I can see why it would make sense to bring in someone from the outside.

"But no sets, costumes, cameras or crew, as those two ate the whole budget."

Another good point!

It sounds like it would have been the cluster of all fucks.  What's odd is that I'm a huge fan of 'Rock and Rule,' and if THAT Nelvana had made an animated X-Men movie with a good script, it would now be spoken about in reverential terms.  But it was clearly misguided from the word go.

Under the heading of How Things Work...

A Canadian animation company (maybe Nelvana, don't recall) paid Marvel $50,000 for an option on ALPHA FLIGHT back in the Nineties. By the time if filtered down to me, minus various fees and expenses, I got a check from Marvel for $1500.

JB: That was essentially some kind of royalty payment?  Not some kind of retainer or a fee for treatments?
