From the director of INDEPENDENCE DAY...

Lionsgate Films Youtube Link

Well, another CGI-fest, but at least the ships and planes look more historically accurate than what Michael Bay gave us...

Why am i doubting this will ever make it into theaters.

And since I am a WW2 and naval aviation buff...Iíll see it at some point Iím sure.

Looking through that teaser trailer again...

Apart from the ships on Battleship Row not in their historical Dec 7th 1941 positions (like what appears to be the USS Pennsylvania moored directly forward the USS Arizona)...

... I don't recall any US Navy dive bomber attacks on Japanese airbases or ship anchorages during the Battle of Midway... Unless the movie is also going to cover the Solomons Campaign that came months later.

I mean, we're already getting Pearl Harbor, the Doolittle Raid, AND the Battle of Midway, so might as well toss that in and the kitchen sink as well...

I may check this out, but I am leery about whether it will be historically accurate... I do think that Woody Harrelson is a good casting choice for Admiral Nimitz though.

INDEPENDENCE DAY was released back in 1996... When the director still has to use a film that he helmed 23 years ago as part of the promo trailer it makes you wonder if maybe he isn't an A-Lister anymore.

I gave up on Roland Emmerich after THE PATRIOT.  An insultingly stupid director.

I visited the USS Midway Museum in San Diego on July 4th.  A fantastic experience.

Here are some shots of the airborne heroes of the Battle of Midway...

The Grumman Wildcat fighter - Slow and sturdy.  Outclassed by the Japanese Zero....but superior tactics/training and a frame that could take a punch helped it do the job.

The Douglass Dauntless divebomber - Rugged and effective.  The Dauntless put bombs on target in the Midway battle and helped sink Japanese aircraft carriers...and turned the tide in the Pacific.

And the almighty USS Nimitz was docked across the bay....
