Passed today from respiratory failure. He'd been fighting lung cancer.

My good friend Wyatt was named after Peter Fonda's Easy Rider character.

RIP.

Didnít see EASY RIDER in first release, tho I was certainly the same age as much of its target audience. The decades since have not prompted me to correct this lack.

Only movie I can say with certainty I saw him in was the French horror anthology SPIRITS OF THE DEAD (1968), in which his character was one half of a tortured romance with... Jane Fonda.

I liked him in a supporting role, in that 3:10 TO YUMA remake a few years back.

Addendum: I also saw him in FUTUREWORLD, an utterly forgettable film from 1978.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen him in anything. His daughter, Bridget, however...

Aside from the forever-noteworthy EASY RIDER, he seemed a strong and dependable presence, even if he did his fair share of schlock.  I vividly recall that RACE WITH THE DEVIL scared the crap out of my as a kid (with the bleakest ending I'd ever seen in a movie, up to that point); he was excellent in THE LIMEY from 20 years ago (one of the best movies he ever appeared in); and he certainly was the best actor (along Sam Elliott) in the otherwise execrable GHOST RIDER.

RIP

He was Mephisto (credited as Mephistopheles on iMDB) in the first Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie. I've spoken to more than a few people that saw it and never even realized or recognized him.
