Not need to Impeach directly and go for a conviction, everyone knows it will fail.

Also then the Pence problem if it honestly works... be careful here, hes a real loose cannon. I shudder to think of that.

The real goal is to discredit and destroy Trump going into next year. This seals his fate to any fence sitters next election and makes him not palatable to any but his base.

GOP should be now getting someone else ready to run in 2020 if intelligence has any say in USA government. even W/O a formal charge put through, Trump will be ruined. He is officially damaged. See Nixon for those a bit older in the tooth.

Pelosi and Schumer are utterly incompetent, so I fully expect them to file narrow articles of impeachment based only on this Ukraine thing and have it all disappear like a wet fart by the end of the year.

If they were smart and/or competent, they would drag this out for a year or more.  Keep issuing subpoenas.  New revelations every week.  Take down Giuliani, Barr, and other administration officials.  Regardless of what the Senate would or wouldn't do, they can use this to take down the Trump presidency.  The Watergate inquiry went on for well over a year and the articles of impeachment included all sorts of misconduct.

I mean, look at what the Republicans were able to do with Benghazi.  They had basically nothing, but they drug it out through a half dozen hearings and used it to cripple Hillary Clinton as a candidate.  The whole 'email server' fiasco came out in the 6th (6th!) Benghazi hearing.  Imagine what would come out about Trump's criminal behavior in the same time period.

The articles of impeachment should be narrow. The more things you drag into it, the more the Republicans will dig in and say that the Democrats are just trying anything to reverse the election. And the Republicans and Trump’s base will zero in on the weakest allegations and declare the whole thing a nothing burger because /one/ example of Trump’s corruption is defensible.

The facts in the Ukraine case are clear. Trump did ask the President of Ukraine to investigate Biden. The transcript of the call was moved to a more secure server. The only thing to determine is whether these actions constituted an abuse of power and subsequent coverup. 

And the whole ‘reverse the election’ meme is insipid.  No matter what happens with impeachment, Hillary Clinton will not become President.  This is what I mean about incompetence with the mainstream Democrats.  They can’t even cal out the other side on obvious BS.
