My 11-year old was stunned by this sequence from Alpha Flight #4:
He wanted to know where the bathing suit came from. Was he wearing it as Sasquatch? Under the modesty lock of hair in the front? Did he have to put it on before changing?
Edit: I don’t really need answers to these questions, I just thought it was funny how he got hung up on it.

Were not unstable molecules used as a catch all for such things at one point? I seem to remember Storm saying her uniform was made from them.

The art is so bad in those two panels, I might want to claim my brush was made from VERY unstable molecules!

OK, this might be an awkward question...
JB, regardless of how "bad" you think your artwork was in the early '80s, it was much, much more fun to look at than the average Marvel or DC artist's work.
Who do you think was so much better than you at Marvel in the early '80s, exactly? Because I'm not coming up with many names. (Aside from the answers I'm sure are forthcoming from you anyway -- Frank Miller and Walt Simonson.)

Frank and Walt. Others. But it's not so much a question of who was better, just of how bad my own stuff was at that time. I am one of those artists who, unfortunately, wears his heart on his sleeve, or more properly in the art. That was a rough patch in my personal life, and it showed in the art.

JB, after all these years, I still don't know how this comic book art thing works because to my eyes, of the incredibly talented artists you named, John Romita, Sr. is the only one whose work I might even consider maybe possibly (heh heh) having a slight edge on yours. (I know. I know. It's all a matter of taste, but still...)

The storytelling is so strong in ALPHA FLIGHT that personal
difficulties really didn't come through in the finished
work, JB.

JB, this subject reminded me of a Sasquatch question from my teen years. An answer may be lost to the mists of time (or just too obscure).
When Sasquatch appeared in Uncanny X-Men 120/121 his foot appeared to be human (5 toes in a row). When he appeared in the early issues of Alpha Flight you drew an ape-like foot. Do you remember if this was going to have any story significance?

JB mentioned John Romita Sr. as an artist who was doing better work than him in the early '80s at Marvel. I can't remember what title Romita was drawing at that time. Anyone else know?
