Seems kind of moot to even bother seeing this in the theaters... I'll certainly give it a look-see eventually...

...but Anya Taylor-Joy looks spot-on as Magik!

I predict I’ll end up seeing this in the theaters just for Anya Taylor-Joy.
Liked her in everything she’s been in.

Both her and Rahne have been cast perfectly. I liked what I saw in the new trailer. Unless something else happens, I plan on seeing this.

Michael,  thanks for posting the correct trailer. I didn't double check  before posting. Whoops!

Bill Sienkiewicz was on Kevin Smith's podcast and he (Bill) gave it a glowing
review and said Marvel wanted it released after seeing it.

I get a Mr Glass / Nightmare on Elm Street vibe myself from the trailer I barely
read any New Mutants myself besides the Rob Liefeld stuff but Rahne and
Magik look spot on I really have no idea who the others were.

The other characters are Danielle Moonstar (Mirage), Sam Guthrie (Cannonball), and Roberto Dacosta (Sunspot).

All of whom had a very distinctive look designed by Bob Mcleod that they've failed to capture. Sunspot was diminutive but super strong. Here, though, he is the largest of them all. And no longer black.

Sam Guthrie was tall, gangly, awkward with ears that stood out, almost a physical embodiment of teen self-consciousness. Charlie Heaton may have played an awkward outsider in Stranger Things, but physically he is pretty non-descript; an everyman.

Danielle Moonstar. Cheyenne. Straight black hair in braids. Long nose, long face, long limbs. Blu Hunt doesn't look a million miles away, but still doesn't quite capture that look.

I assumed this was going to be a straight-to-Netflix (or, more likely, Hulu or Amazon) situation.

I think the casting, other than Illyana and Rahne, was more along the line of 'Southern kid', 'Brazilian guy', 'Native American girl'.  Not uncommon in Hollywood casting of members of minorities.  See also:  Terence Howard and Don Cheadle playing the same character.
