Ah yes - the week where a lot of people win rings they will NEVER put on that a lot of other people worked very hard to make.

Sunday, 1/19
  • Titans (6th seed) at Chiefs (2nd seed)
  • Packers (2nd seed) at 49ers (1st seed)

Okay.  Of the teams left, all have been to the Super Bowl.  The Packers have had the most recent success, winning the Lombardi trophy in 2010.  This would be the Titans' second appearance; in 2000 they lost one of the best SBs ever by seven points (and 1 yard).  The 49ers would be the most recent returnee, having appeared (but lost) in 2013.  And the Chiefs would be the most distant, with their previous appearance being in SB IV in 1970 - before the merger!

I like this crowd of teams!  Not a Patriot in sight - although I still think New England has a 30% chance of winning the championship.

I'd like this crowd better if just about any NFC team other than the Packers (Or Eagles or Redskins) was on that list.

Titans - They've shown that they're underrated this season. Don't see the Chiefs being any better at containing Henry than the Patriots and Ravens were.

Packers - Because I hate their guts and can't wait for Rodgers to retire, so my luck they'll win big. F**K THE PACKERS!!!

Suffice it to say, I want a Titans-49ers Super Bowl.

Taking the home teams, but really hoping the Titans upset the Chiefs.

Not that I'm picking those teams (haven't activated that part of my brain yet) but this would be damn cool.

  • Titans (6th seed) at Chiefs (2nd seed) - Titans will run all day if they can get the lead.  If the Chiefs score early, they'll score often.
  • Packers (2nd seed) at 49ers (1st seed) - The 49ers have been the best consistent team all season.

  • Titans (6th seed) at Chiefs (2nd seed) - Per NFL.com: "Over the regular season and playoffs, no defense has allowed a higher per-carry average to opposing running backs when they stack the box than the Chiefs (4.7 yards). They didn't fare any better in overall run defense, allowing 4.9 yards per carry (fourth most in the NFL)."
  • Packers (2nd seed) at 49ers (1st seed) SF dominated six weeks ago and should win comfortably again, though I am concerned that 36 y.o. Rodgers knows this middling Packer team may be his last best shot at fortune and glory in a Super Bowl.

Naturally, I'm on the "anyone but the Packers" team.  Fucking HATE the Packers.  I normally don't root for the AFC in a Super Bowl, but would if the Packers make it out this weekend.  So there's that history to consider when making my picks...

Sunday, 1/19
  • Titans (6th seed) at Chiefs (2nd seed) - I'm just taking home field.  I'd be ecstatic if the Titans won and would be happy to root for them to win it all.
  • Packers (2nd seed) at 49ers (1st seed) - Toss out stats all you want.  Fine.  Whatever.  The Packers were mauled by the Niners less than two months ago and after that time, they haven't gotten any better.  The Niners, on the other hand, have gotten players back from injury and look to be dominant.  I'm obviously biased against the Cheeseheads, but even looking at this game impartially it's the Niners all the way.
