He was probably the first executive I was aware of because his tenure at NBC
was a punchline for comedians - I think Carson, Letterman, and Trudeau made
him the face of superficial programming. It wasn't until later that I found out
he was responsible for some groundbreaking programming with MASH and
Norman Lear's initial series'. And of course SCOOBY DOO!

I'm surprised he was only 82.

NYT: "At 25, Mr. Silverman was made head of daytime
programming for CBS, and in 1970, in his early 30s, he
landed the network’s top programming job, putting him in
charge of the prime-time schedule."
