So do I.

It's moments like this captured on camera that make the animal world so special.

Whenever we think ourselves above animals, we should look at that picture. And to think we've made the orangutans nearly extinct.

A Looking Glass moment. When I was a child a CBC science show told me only humans have opposable thumbs. If you’re feeling down about the human race, it said, just touch the tip of your thumb to the tip of the other four fingers. Therein lies Civilization.

Now, no?

Here's 10 things we can do
LinkAnd this tidbit
vindicates the CBC"Contrary to popular
misconceptions, humans are not the only
animals to possess opposable thumbs — most
primates do. (Unlike the rest of the great
apes, we don't have opposable big toes on our
feet.) What makes humans unique is how we can
bring our thumbs all the way across the hand
to our ring and little fingers. We can also
flex the ring and little fingers toward the
base of our thumb. "

Cool, I can believe this easily... and I say that as a Koko debunker. So eventually we might get a Dr. Zaius!

Are people with Marfan's syndrome more advanced? They can touch their thumbs to their wrists. Joey Ramone could've been in the X-Men!

...and in my "party pooper" way, I see the inquisitive orangutan reaching for the scythe. Sorry.

I was looking at those ape hands and thinking there was no way they could cross their thumbs all the way to the ring and pinky fingers.

Vindicated indeed!
