This is, on one hand, potentially good news since as near as I can tell, most of what's put me off DC over the last decade has been instigated by him.

On the other hand, WB as a whole is reorganizing itself and how they feel print comics fit into their whole picture could be another nail in the coffin of the comics industry.

Finally.

That's one name I'd be happy not to hear ever again.

DiDio has overseen the period that made me abandon DC Comics for good. That said, there's no guarantee that whomever comes next will be better.

Very funny, JB.

Also reported here.

Now, the big question is, who will replace him. I doubt it will be Geoff Johns (I know some of you don't trust him, but I do -- he gets that superheroes are supposed to be better people than us normal folks).

I hope Jim Lee doesn't take DiDio's position. His instincts and ideas are hardly superior.

I honestly don't know who the right person would be, or even who's available. (I doubt Gail Simone, whom I like a lot, would want the job. I don't think she has editorial experience anyway.)

That panel from Johns' INFINITE CRISIS is a flashback to a
scene that occurred in an issue of WONDER WOMAN written by
Greg Rucka.

Thank you Eric.

It's notable that while Johns wrote the comic where Maxwell Lord killed Ted Kord (Blue Beetle), Kord came back as his old self in DC REBIRTH #1 -- as if Johns was trying to atone for a past sin.

He used to have something of a gore fetish. That's gone now.

And thanks for the link, Peter. I'd forgotten that "it's important to recognize that just one year ago, Warner Bros. brass made the decision to lay off 240 employees in the comics division."

Yikes. I do wonder what DC's future is as a publisher of comics, i.e., does it have any. AT&T now owns WB, and I think they've made it pretty clear that they have no real interest in comics. (Superhero movies and TV shows are another matter.)

Sorry, my bad.

But he was in an editorial position at the time and Infinite Crisis and its crossovers and tie ins were directly under his control, hence the confusion.

Anyway, does a zombified Aquaman presenting Mera a reanimated corpse of their dead baby which she proceeds to vomit blood all over it count?

Most of the stuff that people don't like about Johns' runs/stories are things
that he was instructed to do.
