Most of the stuff that people don't like about Johns' runs/stories are things that he was instructed to do.

Doesn't say a lot for his personality or artistic integrity.

But, of course, everybody is entitled to like what they like or justify it any way they want.

My own opinion is that the Didio/Johns/Lee trio produced the era of comics I enjoyed the least (by far!) based on these characters I love.

I'd be glad to see them all gone, but it still wouldn't make up for these 20 years (!) of sucky comics (and reboots, and rebrandings, and revivals, and more reboots, and another rebranding, and hey let's bring Bendis while we're at it).

I don't know about that, but DC Comics (meaning comics featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) will always exist in some way.

You don't commission billion dollar making movies based on these characters and kill the much more minor operation that operates as the creative source for these endeavors (and also toys, merchandising, large etc.).

But the current comics operation is absolute garbage (IMHO, of course) so if it means killing that and making something better from scratch with the same basic universe I think that's good news.

Perhaps EIC's should have their tenures limited from the outset. Under Didio all DC could do was reboot. At least he wasn't like Quesada and his crew, who only know how to deconstruct.

If DC is shut down, there goes at least a third of all comic book sales. I don't think the comic book industry could possibly survive that. Even if AT&T licenses out to a third party publisher, nobody would have the resources to match the current output of DC.

Mainstream comics from Marvel and DC have essentially been dead to me for well over a decade.  This coming from someone who stuck with them far too long but decided to tun a blind eye to the things I hated in order to read what I loved.  That shift, or balance if you will, went to the dark side in the oughts and I haven't been back.  Now?  The characters I loved since I can remember are all but unrecognizable to me when I step into a comic shop which, let's face it, is rare these days.  It's sad in a way.  I had a 40+ year habit, spending upward of $100 a week for years, that dried up seemingly overnight.  On the flip side, that freed up money to spend on things I really enjoyed.  So it ultimately became a win for me.

What's this rant have to do with Didio's firing?  The rot certainly predated his rise to the position he held.  At best, he escalated it but he didn't instigate it.  The problem with both companies re: their publishing arm started long before anyone in power now (or recently) ever assumed a position where they could steer the ship.  Once they did, the proverbial ship had already sailed long before and it was already not to my liking.  I hate to see anyone lose work, so I won't celebrate this news.  That said?  I don't think anyone will come in to right the ship no matter how much many would hope that to be the case.  Marvel and DC are now what they are, love them or dislike them.  I'm in the latter camp, sadly, but it is what it is.  That's time, tide and print media publishing.

If they want to take one more crack at it, why not talk
to Chris Ryall. Just sayin'

Aside from Batman, just to see what happens, IDW are the
only comics I'm buying. Thanks, Chris!

Regarding 5G, from one of the linked articles:

"...5G is DC's next publishing initiative that is said
to see its classic characters replaced with new ones,
such as a new black Batman, with comics priced as high
as $7.99."

*IF* it fails???

Oh, good grief. (eye roll) I didn't quit comics, comics quit me.  Oh well. More $$ for other things.

If you hover your cursor over the link, the website address appears. Probably easier than forum members mind reading which sites you find toxically manbaby-esque.
